• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I know my dad doesn't like me being a Christian but sometimes he stoops to a new low that even I have to ask myself how can he do this with a straight face. He tried confronting my faith by saying that Jesus said that He wasn't God. I told him, Jesus NEVER said that and he insisted with all his might that Jesus did. OK this is a new low. I've read the New Testament like how many times and I do not like being taken for a fool here.

Such negative energy that Satan is giving off...I swear that my depression is caused a lot by this garbage.

Please don't let your father bully you when it comes to your faith, you have God's Word to back you up.

Jesus tells us that He is One with the Father.

John 14:10-12

Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

Furthermore John 1 and Colossians 1 tell us clearly that Jesus is God.

Dearest LadyBug;

Jesus told us our enemies would be those of our own household and take it from me Jesus doesn't lie. I live with an unbeliever too. It can be very painful and depressing because we just want out and can't find a way. Jesus will give you the grace to endure it one day at a time, and take you out of it when it's the right time for you and your dad.

I'm praying for you and your dad.

God bless
Speckle

My family are not religious and have very little faith in anything. There have been times when they have tried to put my faith down, or tried to make me look and feel stupid for it, but in the end it only made my faith stronger.

It can be really hard, especially from family, but your faith will get you through and that will show them.

Yeah I've been abused pretty bad too by mine. The UB (unbeliever) I live with literally told me that he wished I'd just act like a normal human being. He apologized later which is amazing, but I knew what he meant. He wanted me to quit being a Christian is what he meant and he knew I understood that's what he meant. I realized the last 25 years had been a war for my faith and that Jesus had won!!! That will never happen unless Jesus cuts me off and Jesus has promised never to cast out anyone who comes to Him. Jesus IS Lord and praise God He's my Lord!!!!:bow::bow::bow: I bow my knee to Christ alone :bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: Thank you Lord Jesus for saving my soul:bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow: Glory to God, Thank you Jesus. Thank you. ::cry::cry::cry:

I remember scripture wherein Jesus said "I and my father are one."
Perhaps you can see this not as Satan's messing with your faith through the use of your father's cruelty, but rather as God's test of your commitment to your own Christian identity.

Can you move out? Do you have a friend who will let you roommate with them so you can escape what contributes to your depression?

:prayer: You are in my prayers Ladybug.

I would just move away from him if he causes me such stress all the time. or just completely let go of all those thoughts and feelings. I wonder how I would be able to handle such a situation, it seems tough. it is your choice to stress over a situation or not though some are harder temptations than others. everything is for our good because God does not give us bad things but sin is a veil that blinds us from the beauty of God. cling to God and depend on the Holy Spirit to be with you in whatever you do and lean not on your own understanding. rejoice with God! being happy is an emotion, but the Joy of the Holy Spirit is a spiritual reality. God gives us the power to overcome all things and we are healed by him.

Recite to him bible verses that contradicts what he's saying (you find ALOT of verses that contradicts what he's saying. Basically the whole bookXD) but also recite to him verses that gives him feelings. Verses that could save a man in just one line. And pray for him also unceasingly. You can't just take what he's saying and be mad about it. Pray pray pray. I recommend you read the the book of Proverbs. You'll come across advices on what you should do when you encounter a non believer (referred to as "a fool") though I'm not saying your father is a fool. I feel ya too buddy. My father don't believe God. I was shocked literally when he said the bible is just a sci-fi book. So I prayed and still am. Though to be frank, I quite leave it out of my prayers cuz I forget. But ya, just pray and talk to God for help.

Okay, so this is a great tool. She calls the five statement pledge our shield of faith. Now, you don't want to go sticking it in your dad's face, that won't accomplish much. But, part two you can learn, three simple moves. It's the actual sign language for the statement "I'm believing God." Now this you can do pretty much anywhere. The second your dad blink, you do the sign language to remind yourself that no matter whet anyone says, thinks or does, you're believing God.

Then whe you're alone in your room, you raise up your, as Beth would say, sweet little hand and you say that five fold statement out loud to your God, yourself, and your enemy and finish with your voice and your signing, "I'm believing God."
