I wouldn't mind attending a ROCOR parish. I know the ROCOR priest in Boise, ID and have a lot of respect for him. I truly don't understand how anyone can be ordained to the priesthood without having graduated from an Orthodox seminary, and most certainly not right after he was baptized. I think Fr. Monk was the straw that broke the camel's back.

A message from Metropolitan Daniel of the Moscow Metropolitanate, "We need to maintain and develop the old tradition! I your bishop firmly declare that we do not change and we shall adhere to the position of preservation and rebirth of Western Rite Orthodox tradition! And all those who wish to be with us, we are happy to take both of our children to the fold! God help us all! Amen!"

Sometimes, to clean a really messy room, one must first move all of the furniture out of the room, and put it back more orderly afterwards.

Or... Is this the beginning of a schism? I do not know the context of this quote. I am trying to find out.

I know there are many in ROCOR that really want a legit Western Rite. But there were simply no standards in that WR diocese. They can't agree on what liturgies to do, and they were kind of just leaving things up to Bishop Jerome (who was not really their Bishop, only an administrator). Seems he overstepped his authority. He was so excited to grow the WR that he basically took anyone that wanted to join. There were several ordinations where the ordinand's first visit to an Orthodox Church was their own ordination. Similar to the situation with Nathan Monk. As you can imagine, there was very little vetting of these clergymen. What has led to this current decision is both the poor handling of the WR vicariate, and Bishop Jerome's decision to ordain multiple Priests at a single liturgy (without content of their actual Bishop, Met. Hilarion). Now they seem to be picking up the pieces of these barely Orthodox WR parishes, and the Synod has decided that they are better off changing rites. It's a shame, but the whole thing was causing a scandal, and this is probably for the best. It has yet to be seem whether or not this actually means no more WR in ROCOR or not. We'll only know after the pastoral epistle is issued.

Okay, I just found out that the Moscow Metropolitanate is not in communion with world Orthodoxy. If a parish took him up on his offer, it would be is schism.

Am I misunderstanding the document? The ROCOR has decided to shut down their Western Rite Vicariate right? The whole thing? And they want to absorb its members into the Eastern Rite?

The wording is not clear. It seems to me that there will still be some WR presence, but not a separate vicariate. And the preference will still be for eastern rite parishes.

But they won't necessarily be "outlawed" within the ROCOR?

I doubt it. the ROCOR has had WR for decades. What's happening now is a result of the problems of the past few years. I doubt they would throw the whole thing out because of some very specific problems. However, it must be stated that The modern Eastern rite is a living rite that has developed out of more than a thousand years of correct theology, the modern Orthodox Western rite is at best bringing back dead liturgies, and at worst borrowing liturgies from people who have developed them in centuries of bad theology and mixing them with Eastern liturgics. I'm saying this as a former Episcopalian who would love to see a proper western Liturgy in the Orthodox Church. I just don't know if that dream will ever be realized.

That's what I was wondering.
From what I understand, the WR in the ROCOR is not structured like the Eastern Catholic Churches, but more like the Anglican Ordinate, which is under the Western Church.
