"The nation's largest health insurer, UnitedHealth Group Inc., is leaving California's individual health insurance market, the second major company to exit in advance of major changes under the Affordable Care Act."

So despite Obama's promise that we could keep our insurance if we wanted, about 58,000 Californians suddenly discover they will have to get new insurance. I guess what Obama meant was we could keep our insurance, as long as it was still around.

58,000 people in California, as my user title states, find themselves between Barack and a Hard Place

Do you think that the government should require UHC to keep doing business in California? How very big-government of you!
Good uestion. If the government can force individuals to buy a product, why can't it force companies to sell that product. As for me, I think the government should stay out of healthcare altogether which would have prevented this problem

It's actually bad business to force insurance companies to accept clients who are already sick. Just like it would be bad business to force auto insurance companies to accept clients with cars that have already been wrecked and have to pay for those repairs.

You're right. It's bad business. Let's make it a public service instead and go single-payer.

Problem solved.

Considering how the IRS has been politicized, do we really want government having control of our healthcare like that? Do we want them potentially deciding you won't get a life-saving medical procedure due to your political affilitiation?

The Supreme Court made a political decision when they ruled in favor of Obamacare, from a Constitutional standpoint that decision means that Government has the power over everything in your life because it would affect people's health.

Obamacare was designed to force people on a single payer system. Furthermore, MachZer0 is actually right about the pre-existing condition issue.

A better plan would have been a probationary period where the insurer wouldn't have to cover the pre-existing condition for 5 years. Otherwise we have people whom are just diagnosed with cancer getting health insurance so the insurance company is on the hook to pay for the medical costs, which is essentially government sponsored extortion.

That's what Obamacare is about. It's designed to fail leaving us in desperate circumstances

Sorry but unlike you, I think I'll pass on being a serf...

Too late. The question is whether you want your fellow serfs to have access to basic healthcare.

And the difference in how much healthcare you get being dependent on the whims of a politician...

You and revanneosl really don't get it, if government is footing the bill for healthcare, they have the ability to dictate everything you do in life, the food you eat, the clothes you wear, possibly even where you live, etc. All because it somehow affects how much they have to pay for your healthcare.

Again, maybe you want "freedom" from having to make decisions freedom from having to think for yourself, but I actually value independence and personal liberty.

You make me think.... which logical fallacy....Slippery Slope or Strawman.....? Slippery Slope. That's the one.

Darryl Issa will be deciding people's healthcare?

Since when did Darryl Issa work at the IRS and been transferred into being in charge of implimenting Obamacare?

Last I checked he was a member of the House of Representatives...

You were saying...

Seriously, do you want one of the same people that was involved in the IRS scandal in charge of your healthcare?

Maybe we could take away healthcare coverage for all the Tea Party folks and give it to the uninsured. That seems fair since the TP's are all sooo self-made.

Seriously, the excuse of waiting until the IRS gets "fixed" is silly. The IRS will never be fixed to your satisfaction.

Most opponents of ANY healthcare reform are the IGM* crowd.

I thought that since the IRS 'scandal' was entirely of Rep Issa's creation you were asking if we wanted him in charge of healthcare. Maybe I misunderstood.
