Obama's third term

Come on guys - this was meant for a serious discussion, not an attack on me - this could be a possibility with an administration with no respect for the constitution - couldn't we just discuss that instead of putting me down. My skin is thick - after 8 years on this forum - I've learned,.

Sharon after 8 years you should understand the importance of citing sources in a forum meant for debate. You should also understand the importance of people critiquing that source for reliability. Stop assuming people are just going after you.

You say the current admin. doesn't care about the Constitution, fine. I think the primary goal of both parties is to perpetuate their existence, same as with any organization.

But both parties do pretend to have a respect for the wishes of the American people. People get sick of presidents after eight years, or at least sick and tired of Bush and Obama and their Surveillence Era. Who do you think is going to vote for him for a third term? If his job approval continues on the way it is, it's going to be as bad or worse than Bush's when he left office. Was anyone going to vote for Bush for a third term...if had the opportunity? Hell to the no.

Because apparently Obama really is the Antichrist or something.

I've noticed something while comparing left-leaning idiots to right-leaning ones...

Even at the height of the anti-Bush idiocy, through all the "Dubya is eeeeeeeeeeeeevilllll!!!!111" howlings, they never gave up. Then in 2008, Obama becomes president, and you'd expect the roles to reverse, and nothing else to change.

While that is mostly true, I can't help but notice a lot of doom, gloom, and outright surrender of the "America is DOOOOMED!" variety -- it's like some people just can't wait to throw in the towel.

Why is that? Is there a higher level of fatalism associated with the right, due to the religious influence, or what?

It's not fatalism, it's fear. Science seems to indicate that people with a higher-than-normal degree of fear in their worldview are disproportionately attracted to more conservative political ideologies.

Or we choose not to bury our heads in the sand and just pretend like it doesn't matter who's in charge. Many of you who laugh at us were the same ones who blamed Bush for everything, called him a moron, said he was the worst president ever, and accused him of orchestrating 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and going to war only for oil. Let's not pretend the left didn't have their outrageous claims too.

Orchestrating 9/11-eh we'll probably never know the truth...he could not have made a hurricane...and it clearly wasn't for oil, afghanistan barely has any, but they do have about the most lithium of any country and what's that? The government started backing electric cars around the same time? Wow how coincidental!! And lithium actually does have valid medical uses now? Wow we sure got lucky.

The 9/11 truther thing in particular was annoying for me. As many conspiracies entail, it involved a lot of either outright lies or photoshopped pictures.

It is not doom and gloom - it is facts - we can't continue on down this path we are on -Giving our enemies all this money, regulations that forbid businesses to operate and more and more are closing every day, when Obamacare kicks in fully, there will be more job losses. There is something wrong when there are more people on welfare and unemployment than are working to put money back into the economy. I don't call all this fear - facts are facts. Republicans are trying to stop the flow and are accused of blocking everything, therefore people who do not keep up with it all thinks Republicans don't care.

Unemployment is way less than when he took office. The stock market is back to pre-recession levels. Combat forces are out of Iraq and soon will be out of Afghanistan.

There are plenty of problems, but the sky isn't falling and you wouldn't be happy if unemployment were 2% as long as Obama is in office.

You realize that the majority of people receiving government assistance (minus the elderly and children of course) are already employed?

I always find it strange when people blame the problems with the private sector on the government. People being payed crap wages and having to seek other forms of assistance just to continue living isnt the fault of the government.

If you will recall, I agreed completely that the left had its fair share of hysterical idiots. But no matter what they said about dubya, they didn't give up, didn't say America was finished, didn't roll out the white flags.

We couldn't continue on it five years ago, and we couldn't cpntinue on it five years before that. Where was your doomsaying then?

-Giving our enemies all this money, regulations that forbid businesses to operate and more and more are closing every day, when Obamacare kicks in fully, there will be more job losses.

Which regulations are you referring to?

There is something wrong when there are more people on welfare and unemployment than are working to put money back into the economy.

I agree -- got stats for that?

I don't call all this fear - facts are facts.

Indeed they are -- care to present some?

Republicans are trying to stop the flow and are accused of blocking everything, therefore people who do not keep up with it all thinks Republicans don't care.

People who do keep up think the same thing.

While this may seem looney, how many were there saying the same thing about bush?

It carries about the same weight, which isn't much. I remember several of my liberal friends saying Bush was going to try it and I kinda just shook my head at them.

I keep reading about Obama's third term. What in your opinion would be the determining situation that would make this possible.

The reason a president can only hold two terms to begin with is because one president was elected not once, not twice, but four times. If Obama tried to get a third term, we'd just laugh him out of office and elect the next person. Granted, the next person would more than likely share the same ideals and agenda but it would be a new president. That said, I do appreciate the recent DOMA repeal, at the very least.

Is this 2013's version of a "birther" conspiracy?

Amendment XXII in the National Archives

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

If there is an interest, individuals will dig to find the source of a problem, polticians' competencies included.

What businesses are forbidden to remain due to regulations?

Businesses are open about paying fines as part of doing business. The fines are there for a reason and are often too low.

I have read that foreign countries donate to the chamber of commerce and some of the funds are used in republican campaigns. This article might be one reason why.

I remember some people on the left saying similar stuff about Bush, and that never happened. Neither will this.
Exactly. The right should treat their fringe in the same way the left treated theirs during the Bush years. With scorn.
