Dating outside your denomination

Tough to explain all of my reasoning behind it, but, generally I would say "no" to dating outside of my denomination. Being non-denominational (anti-denominational is a good way to put it, too :D), I would shy away from someone who takes a firm stance on debatable doctrine (or perhaps I should say, false doctrine). We have a mission to tend to, and I'd rather be focused on that.

For the most part, I'm alright with it. Roman Catholicism is the one denomination I wouldn't consider, and that's only because of the Church's insistence that were we to marry, our children would need to be raised Catholic (kind of awkward considering I'm a Protestant minister).

How much impact doctrine has overall is pretty debatable, IMHO. How many of you have the exact same doctrinal convictions now that you did five years ago? And why would you take something so transient and make it the basis of a relationship?

Heh, I know a couple who both went into the relationship saying "I refuse to date anyone who isn't a Calvinist." They fell in love, married, and then one of them rejected Calvinism. Fortunately their views have softened so their marriage carries on unabated, but it goes to show how much we can overemphasize doctrine.

I do know several married couples that where one member was Catholic and one was Baptist, most of the time they just end up becoming Lutheran or Methodist as a compromise.

For some reason I find that^ extremely funny.....

I don't care about denominations at all, or even agreeing on doctrinal issues, really. As long as I know that you're actually a Christian I'm fine with you. I'd probably "adopt" whatever denomination my spouse has, but I put adopt in quotes because I wouldn't neccesarily agree with every tenant of the denomination, but would have no problem attending most any denomination's church on a regular basis. That could cause problems. I'm thinking about dating a Eastern Orthodox girl now, and it could be complicated at some points because she does take it very seriously.

I imagine I could date most Protestants. Outside of that, probably not.
I have seen others with similar thoughts
there is such division among Protestants on doctrinal matters I just find this weird and a relatively modern mindset

Let's just say, if she believes in God, Jesus, and the Bible, our relationship will have a fighting chance...

"You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." James 2:19

[Demons speaking to Jesus] "What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” Matthew 8:29

I think your standard is a bit low if she only needs to believe in God, Jesus and the Bible :p

Strider is just pandering and being passive as usual. Don't mind him.

I was always told that if someone makes fun of me, it's cause they like me :)

I smell a bromance brewing!

Um well considering I only believe in one way for salvation, I would have to say I could probably *DATE* but not *BE WITH*. Once I found out they are stuck to their way of thinking / faith I would give up and find someone new. Doesnt matter about the compatibility, or how cute they may be, or even if i like them. My faith is more important to me than people are
