The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. True. If we keep reading the bible (even if it doesn't make sense half the time!) and seeking the truth in all things, God will sort out the rest. It can be quite humbling when we discover some of our beliefs aren't from God at all or that we hadn't understood something fully. The more I know, the more I realise I don't know.

What a good attitude that is of yours, Lotty.
I enjoy having my misconceptions getting the rug pulled out from under them. The truth can be bitter at first, but it has a refreshing aftertaste.

I hate this world and everything it stands for, I just want to die. God is seeking people who feel this way. God wants us to die to ourselves and to our own desires and our will. If you hate yourself, hate your life and want it to end, then do it. I am not talking about suicide here.
Jesus said if you find your life you will lose it, if you lose your life you will find it. Often a depressed person feels they have no hope for a happy life. If you feel this way, I urge you to consider becoming God's slave instead and putting behind you the idea that we must seek happiness - this idea of pursuing happiness enslaves us to the world and does not bring freedom.
Dying to ourselves is a process all Christians must go through. Being born again is like a dead seed that germinates bringing new life and a living plant that bears fruit. Many of us Christians seem to be stuck as a dormant seed that hasn't fully died. We struggle with sin and wonder where is God? But we haven't fully died to him, he is still patiently waiting for us to seek him with our whole heart, with our whole life.
Having talents, hopes, desires, and a special purpose sounds very spiritual but this is a counterfeit gospel we are being fed! I am writing on here in 'Depression' because God is seeking you guys, he seeks the lost, the broken because you are the people that may be prepared to die and put him first, leaving your life behind you. I'm really praying for you all

It reminds me of the parable of the seeds: 4When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:5The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.6Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.7Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.8Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great. As He said these things, He would call out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8
Our pain is like the plough readying the soild for a decent seed. It does tare through us and it seems any seedling that we thought was good gets mowed down lol.. But then theres a fruitful seeds and its glorious.
But then that gets pruned....arghhh
You're so right though. The answer is submission to His will. If we have pride or idolatrous love for the world we get slaughtered.
Humility is the answer. Its quite alien to me personally but theres not a chance that i want to go out into the world to serve or in battle without Gods headship and leading.

The good news for depressed people is that we are allowed to die to our old self and take on the new.

Yes we seem to be on the same page! Don't worry I have posted things countless times after only reading the OP, I think that's okay!I like how you say that our pain is like ploughing the soil. I'm thinking a lot lately about what makes the soil good.

Resurrection from death with Jesus means destruction of the old self (departing from all sins) and rebuilding of the new self(Uniting with God), like the history of holy temple.(Jonh2:19-22). No death, no resurrection, and no destruction, no rebuilding.
I am not doing well, action should reflect the faith.

depression is not disobedience. Are you refusing to obey God in something? Many biblical men suffered depression. Life can be wearisome for a Child of God, its not a sin to be sad.

I think in this topic LottyH just wants to discuss the biblical meaning of "death" but not whether Depression is a punishment from God for sins. The relationship between illness and sins is complex, maybe they have relationship maybe not. In my case i think partly I am punished for my sins. i can understand this is God's love but don't want to accept this kind of love. The wisdom of human is too limited.

Yes but the wisdom of Our Lord isnt. please consider taking your pain to Him and let Him be your shepherd.. Its a painful but necessary spiritual work in my view.

I dont believe God punishes us because of sin. Jesus took the punishment on the cross. But I do believe God disciplines us to correct us if we are going down a wrong road. Also to show us He loves us. I dont know why some people get depressed and others get anxiety. But God promises to work all things out for the good of His children. If you have accepted Jesus as savior and are going through something like depression or anxiety etc. Then you need to think maybe your supposed to learn something. God Bless All

I dont thing God would cause the anxiety or the depression but He can use it to Help us learn. For instance if a person is walking around feeling very lonely then maybe Jesus is going to teach that person to learn and trust that they are never alone and that He is always there. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He promises that. So then maybe that person would start praying more and talking to Jesus like family and a best friend .
