I am curious to know what everyone thinks about what Jesus meant when He said:

Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, andmy burden is light.

Any thoughts?
Not looking for an argument, just a deeper understanding.

This is a verse of surrender. By surrendering our problems, sins, guilt, our flesh driven dreams and desires. We take on his yoke, his will and his desires for our life. His yoke is light because we leave behind or worries and fears into his capable hands.
Of course in real life this can be difficult it is hard to surrender my will. When I do i feel peace. Unfortunately to "old" man in me wants to be willful and control my life.
So when I surrender to the Lord , I take on his yoke, and leave behind all my baggage.

I hope this helped.

The yoke we are to wear is rightiouness, and the burden we are to carry if for the lost, to see people repent and get saved.

We are not required to carry any other burden. Jesus takes them upon Himself. So for example, we do not have to be depressed, oppressed, repressed. We do not have to carry any burden of sickness at all. My pastor is 80 years old and in perfect health.

The garden of Eden is to be on the inside of us. It is through us, that the kingdoms of this world will be conquered for God. It is through our message that people will be converted to God. We are a conquering army, but those who do not accept God's plan of redemption will be destroyed.

AMEN!! "I surrender All"

I am also new to the forum and have really enjoyed it this past week! I particularly enjoy sharing how God's Word impacts our lives. It gives me great strength to share with other believers!
Thank you!

Good.

His way is always better than our way.

Comfort and satisfaction in Christ.

Dependingonhim,
Welcome to the forum and Amen!! :) There is a song that is called I Surrender All and I love it.

Ed, yes His way is much better than ours and sometimes I am so awed when I think that the God of this universe cares so much for little me!
I have found there is no comfort or satisfaction in any other thing, except our Lord.

John, thanks for sharing that. You always have an interesting view on things. :)

Stogus, thank you so much for sharing that, it hit very close to home. Reading that really touched me.

I agree completely, but I must add that it includes the fact that we
are always trying to please those who are unrighteous and the unrighteous judgements of us. By focusing on Christ, as opposed to the world, our burdens are quickly lightened. Suddenly, we are not trying to do things we may never have been meant to do in order to please an unrighteous world. God, to me, is much easier to satisfy the the world that is never satisfied and is always ravenous.

It was so funny, in class today (i go to a Bible college) we were discussing this passage, (and I thought about this thread) and my teacher was saying that a yoke is something that they put over two oxen to pull the wagon (or whatever). They usually put one experienced ox, with one that had no experience. This was so that the one with experience pulled more weight until the other one learned how to. That is what Jesus is doing for us. He is taking on more of the weight! He is such an awesome God!

Solo, you hit it right on!! It's funny because this also applies to the situation at my work. I guess sometime I allow myself to be burdened with things that the Lord doesn't want me burdened with.

RayNay, you know I never thought of it that way. Thank you for sharing that!

Exactly Kristen! You know I understood the verse, it was the application that was hard for me to act on.

Thanks everyone for your imput!
