Well the usual...I'm Catholic because of tradition and upholding family values.

Nah, actually the opposite. I was born into a non-practicing Catholic family who nearly never went to church (ultimately I think they only are Catholic because of tradition), and I'll also add that I've never been baptised (though living in the world's largest atheist country makes it hard to receive baptism without being killed).

Personally I'm actually happy that I wasn't baptised as a baby, because I was allowed to make my own choice to become Catholic. During my early teenage years, I drifted in and out of Christianity, sometimes considering myself a deist (I always had a belief in God, but I never really allowed Jesus into my life...I didn't know anything about the Trinity, so I though that Jesus was lower than God). Through the faith and the Holy Spirit, I discovered that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. There was no point in me praying to God, without knowing about Jesus first!

As for how I became/consider myself a Catholic...I believe that Jesus founded our Church, that the Church is His Body. I am not saying that all the other sects are wrong, as long as they believe that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour I have no problem, but I am rather skeptical about some of the newer forms of Christianity being created from the multiplying Protestant ones. The thing I adore about our Church is that we conserve Christianity, we ensure that it stays the same for future generations. This has always been the case.

Anyway could you please check out my thread about the attacks on our Church:

Thanks ^_^

Your grammar and general diction is very good for someone from Beijing, coming from someone who lives in a city that's practically half Chinese. o_O

What's that supposed to mean ?

Did you think to look at Kurama's Profile ?

Just because someone gives their location as Beijing it doesn't necessarily mean that's where they were born and bred.

From the profile

I'm a student currently residing in Beijing.

I am of mixed race (Chinese, Italian and Irish) and take pride in the great heritage God has given me.

Still doesn't say where he was born - and that has nothing to do with the subject of this thread anyway.

I want to ask a dumb question -- not sarcast but I just don't know ...
What is purgatory? -- thanks for replies ...

Is a temporary state of suffering, where as someone else said, impurities are removed. The reason I think it makes so much sense is say someone like Hitler was a Catholic and before he died he repented of his sins, for him to go straight to Heaven doesn't seem like it'd be quite right IMHO, but him being in purgatory for a 100 or thousand years or however much time The Lord wills, makes a lot of sense. I'd imagine the length there differs between souls but of course I have no idea. Also I know The Lord lives outside the concept of time but I just mean different lengths. And also as someone else said the scripture says

Revelation 21:27
"Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life."

and since we die impure/unclean etc...we need to be made pure/clean before entering The Lords perfect, Holy, pure, Heaven.

It seems like I offended youu? It means exactly what it means, he/she/they have impressive diction in English for someone from Beijing... but as you've shown from their profile, they're pretty international..

Soooo...?

edit: anyways.. sorry for derailing thread, maybe an admin can just delete all this or something.

...ummm, I'm still touched about what you've about me, thank you o (◡‿◡✿)

Just to let you know, I was born in Belgium (which is why I can also speak French fluently). I've been living in Beijing for 3 years, but my primary language is English. My mother is Chinese, but I've had more of a European upbringing. However, indeed, I am accustomed to China as well.

WOW - language skills like that put most of us to shame :(

OK my French is rusty now - but it was fluent at one time , I've a bit of Portugese - can still read it but as I've not been over there for some years I would not be able to hold a conversation. I can read Ukranian in Cyrillic but can't speak it.

All that lingual talent. It must be the Irish in you...;)

I'll answer this question in a different way. I'm not Protestant because Protestantism is 16th century invention. I refuse to believe that God would let us get it wrong for 1,500 years before correcting things during the Reformation. Protestantism just makes no sense; it's relatively new and you can't be Sola Scriptura when the New Testament wasn't even completed nor canonized during Christianity's infancy. There's ZERO logic behind it.
