For strictly weight loss, my tips would be...
Count calories, find how many calories your body needs to lose weight for each day, eat at a deficiency. Remove Soda's out of your every day diet routine, remove fried foods out. For weight loss only, you don't have to stop eating things you love, as long as it's in moderation and you fit it into your day. If it is a stumbling block, then remove it out of your diet.
When I say don't diet, I mean don't get into these fad diets "Low carbs" Your body needs carbs, the right kind of carbs. Eating nothing but greens, that won't last long. Your body needs protein. Put the right things in your body, make sure your body is getting enough water to stay hydrated, 8 - 10 glasses of water a day can help you lose 10 lbs a year and that is just water.
Exercise is important but it's only like 4% of being fit most of your weight loss and fitness is created in the kitchen. Working out just gives you more calories, if you eat calories back, I personally don't but that is only because my body doesn't adjust well to that, it tends to gain. BUT I know others who do eat their calories back and lose just fine.
Don't skip meals, in fact 6 small meals a day is a must, eat all your meals before 8 pm, or well this is what I do and it helps. Breakfast being my biggest meal of the day, a snack between breakfast and lunch, lunch, snack between lunch and dinner, dinner, and a snack after dinner. I find I eat more now then I use to. Might not consume as many calories but that is because I measure everything.
