It is called payroll deduction.
Oh, I guess that will collect itself. It's foolproof because no one has ever cheated on that even with IRS oversight.

Trust fund kids get off tax-free? Can't get more fair than that! Executives who get options instead of pay will also rake it in?

Right there should be no enforcement arm of the government collecting taxes.

That sounds like it would work out swimmingly.

This is one of those "sounds good on a bumper sticker" ideas that is just incredibly stupid and Ted should be ashamed of himself for pandering like he is.

Yes, didn't you know that all business people behave ethically?

Of course -- if you can't trust the patrons of offshore tax shelters and dollar-a-year CEOs to be ethical with money, then who can you trust?

Perhaps Obama's revered Treasury secretary, the guy in charge of the IRS, convicted tax cheat Timothy Geithner? :p

Playing fast and loose? Timmeh is not the Treasury Secretary anymore. Nor is he a convicted tax cheat.

LOL ... didn't say he still was.

Nor is he a convicted tax cheat.
Now who's playing fast and loose?
Mr. Geithner "came clean" only when he was caught, first by an IRS audit that found he owed Social Security taxes for 2003 and 2004 and then when additional tax liabilities for 2001 and 2002 were discovered after his nomination. Timothy Geithner's Tax Problems | Washington Post
"Not being convicted" is a distinction without a difference when the IRS is involved. The IRS rarely goes to actual court when it prosecutes ... as it did in Geithner's case.

Then you probably shouldn't have called him "convicted." The truth will set you free.

OK, then ...

Perhaps Obama's revered Treasury secretary, the guy in charge of the IRS, convicted confessed tax cheat Timothy Geithner who admitted guilt only after being caught by IRS enforcers? :p

It's a start, now let's work on "revered," and "cheat"?

Besides, we're doing away with the IRS enforcers, remember? Clearly men of Geithner's moral character need no jackbooted thugs to keep them in line.

LOL ... if you insist. ;)

This from CBS News: Obama: Geithner "one of our finest secretaries of the treasury" ever - CBS News Video

President Obama praised outgoing Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner today as "one of our finest secretaries of the treasury" in history,
Don't believe me though ... watch the video.

One can hope.

It is curious that the IRS needs such people to enforce a "voluntary" tax system.

I'd venture that a simple flat tax collected by one's employer, similar to sales tax, would require very little enforcement.

Admittedly, I only read the headline, not watched the video, but:

ABOLISH the IRS? How would taxes be collected, then?
For sure, it seems that the proverbial guillotine needs to be put to heavy use in the IRS, but there's a long way from that, to "abolish it" altogether.

Please show me the law that says I must pay an income tax. I'll wait.

Lols - you linked to letters to the editor?

The difference is huge - it's the difference between being convicted and not being convicted in a criminal court. The "evasion" was pretty minimal - he didn't do his own taxes and he had paid every year.

LOL ... let's go with your "scenario" then, DaisyDay. It only strengthens the Ted Cruz argument.

ABC News put together this collection of politicians who couldn't figure out how to correctly compute their personal taxes. Politicians Have Trouble With Their Taxes Too - ABC News
Politicians and policy makers are no strangers to tax trouble. From fumbled deductions to outright fraud, members of both parties have been in the spotlight for their tax payments, or lack thereof.
Basically, the IRS can target anyone at any time they choose. The existing tax code is so bad that even using the advice received directly from IRS agents won't help one escape if a different IRS investigator determines he doesn't like the way you've compiled your taxes. Sure, you can request a court hearing but that can take a long time ... during which time the IRS interest and penalty meter is running.

How do ya like Ted Cruz now, DaisyDay?
