The earth shall reel to and fro

The pillars of it will be removed, for replacement.
"Pillars of earth" are, for one, "electromagnetic forces", called "Winds", which is "currents", in the book of Enoch.

Earth will be turned upside down, seasons will be backwards, earth shall stagger like a drunken man and be removed out of her place and jump about like a chased roe, says the Scripture.
Scripture says earth is fixed in its place and does not revolve, spin, nor rotate, but Scripture says earth will be moved out of its place and seasons backwards and turned upside down in the tribulation.

It is not literal; it is about the culture and morality. 'Woe to those who call good evil and evil good.'

It is also not prophecy. It is not a "literal" prediction of something going to happen.

"Earth" is also not necessarily global and this is true all over Hebrew usage. It very often means the visible horizons; the land.

In Jer 4, he looked and saw the earth and it was 'tohu wa-bohu' (formless and void, the same expression as found in Gen 1:2). I don't believe for a minute that he was speaking literally, that he was speaking of the earth, and I'm sure he was speaking of the devastation God had brought.

The earth has and will again, in ever worse measure, reel to and fro. These are words that are real and are not to be spiritualized away. The earth's orbit was literally shifted after the Indonesian earthquake and when the quakes prophesied in scripture occur you can be sure all humanity will know it. Every island disappearing and every building falling down will be the definitive reeling of earth as it goes to and fro in its last death throe. God is ticked and will exhibit the severity of that in a finality that will stun all life.

I agree partly with you, but the earth is not orbiting anything and is fixed in place according to all Scripture.
In God's Word: the earth does not move, spin, rotate, revolve, or tilt, but remains in its fixed place; but earth shall move, and shall jump about, and shall turn upside down, and the seasons shall be backwards; fruits will not appear in their time, and the sun's orbit will be seen in a different place in association to the earth's removal from its fixed place.

Before Christ came in flesh, the Jews had the Writings of Enoch the prophet, the seventh from Adam, which does prophecy that the earth shall be turned upside down....

go back to the OP. It is present tense. That's a 2nd reason why it is a comment on degeneration, not science.

BTW, since when is it wrong to be spiritual? Why is it wrong to say the prophet has piercing words for the misconduct of his generation? This is another topic here at CF-eschatology to which I get the response of deer looking into headlights.

many English translators translate the same passages with different tenses because tense is not in the Hebrew original...

It doesn't say that man is literally the cause of the earth literally reeling to and fro. Man doesn't have any ability to make that happen.

When the entire chapter is read, it becomes clear that it's not the earth itself. In Isaiah 24:17, 21-22 The earth refers to particular of the people's inhabitants.

When the Bible talks about men reeling to and fro it doesn't mean that they walk literally like drunkards. Ps.107:27; Job 12:25.
Neither does it literally mean it concerning the planet itself. The phrase is a Jewish idiom that means the people walk in darkness, they are at their wits end, not knowing what to do about the times of distress that is upon them.

compare Jerermiah's first 10 chapters or so ("You do all the evil you can.") Then look at 4:23 (sorry for wrong verse earlier). This degeneration is what he was talking about. Before actual destruction happened.

This is why Mt 23's declared desolation happens before the desolation of the 1st century. Prophets always declare it first, to try to wake up their consciences.

It has nothing to do with geo-mechanical features, unless you have private knowledge of an earthquake during the fall of Jerusalem in 586.

This is the curse of literalism. I hope you will be able to see the shocking courage of the prophet in the face of moral chaos instead of another non-discussion about science lab issues, like many of you do about futurism.

This it simply God's prophetic language speaking to "shaking things up" (if you will)..Some people simply refuse to acknowledge "prophetic language".

In Hebrews 12:25-29 we are told by the writer how to understand this:

25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.
26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.”
27 This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;
29 for our God is a consuming fire.


I'm not believing people are ignoring the passages that tell you how to understand this.

The Word declares that the earth is fixed in place but that the heavens revolve around the earth; and the sun, moon and stars stars follow their own peculiar paths in the revolving heavens which revolve around the earth from the beginning of creation, when the heavens and earth were made and the heavens were stretched out from the earth between the divided in two waters around the earth, on day two; and the sun and moon were made and set in the revolving heavens on day 4 of creation week.

There is not one Scripture anywhere that states that the earth moves, spins, rotates, revolves or tilts.

The first chapter of Genesis declares the earth is the beginning poiint for the stretched out heavens, which are stretched out between the divided in two waters of creation; and in them, the stars, sun, and moon have their own peculiar orbits.

Waters is "mayim". Heaven is "shamayim" in Genesis, and the "sha" denotes the division of the waters in that the sign for that letter was first depicting two front teeth -the incisors. The waters are "cut/divided in two"; and in the stretched out firmament between the waters, the stars, sun, and moon have their own orbits, and they control earth's climate, years, and seasons for earth.
Earth is not a planet, in Scripture. Planet means wanderer, and only the stars with no light of their own wander in peculiar orbits and also control events on earth.

You might benefit by looking into the electric universe "theory" which is actually a biblical doctrine, though the proponets are not Bible believers, esp.
