Government bureaucrats who agree to be the one who goes under the bus and make a scandal go away are often rewarded with lucrative private-sector jobs. Just don't kid yourself that this only happens under Democratic administrations. It is the common practice on both sides of the aisle.

Of course Ms Lerner will do so, just like
Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney. Convicted of making false statements, obstruction of justice and perjury and subsequently disbarred. Currently Senior Vice President of the Hudson Institute.

Henry Cisneros, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton. Indicted on 18 counts of conspiracy, giving false statements and obstruction of justice. Pled guilty to a misdemeanor count of lying to the FBI in a negotiated plea deal and fined $10,000. Currently co-chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center's Housing Commission and Immigration Task Force. Also Executive Chairman of the CityView companies.
I'd go on through the list of presidents, but you get the point.
Indeed. And you're absolutely right.

Then they can afford that expensive loofah so as to scrub the tire marks off their back later, while living in luxury knowing it takes no time at all for busy people bombarded with new news and scandal, to forget all about their being a speed bump in dirty politics.

Sadly, as a tax payer, we have to say they get what we pay for.

That's so wrong!
I wrote Obama a very polite letter years ago during the Wall street FAIL scandal asking for a bail out, while watching an investment broker there whine to the press about how he had to put receipt of his custom ordered Lear jet on hold.

I gave the President what I thought were good reasons to send me a nice fat check too, being I'm an independent business owner hoping to survive the economy WS made of American's reality.

Obama wrote back!

I opened the envelope hoping for money, yeah sure, and instead found an auto-pen signed personal reply on official White house heavy gauge stationary promising he'd referred my letter to the proper offices so as to assist my concerns and inquiry for funding.
When the Secret Service didn't show up clinking me in cuffs so as to introduce me to a slow cruise to Cuba, I figured good things were in store.

A week later I received an application to request financial assistance from the Small Business Association.

I framed it and the local bus schedule over the part of the desk where I keep my company check book. And over that frame is a single DVD case from my DVD library perched on a very tiny shelf with the documentary, "Inside Job", front and center.

^_^ Ya gotta laugh because otherwise you could wake up and find out this is all really happening.

The responsible thing to do when a business or agency runs completely amok is to padlock the doors, confiscate the records and initiate criminal proceedings against it.

What is Congress waiting for?

evidence that puts the smoking gun in Obama's hand.

Why waste time prosecuting the goombahs when you can go after the Don?

Mrs. Lerner is subject to be recalled. I don't understand it - but Judge Napolatano (sp) said she opened herself up to be called back by the statements she made of 'I did nothing wrong - I didn't break any laws' - we'll hear more about it soon.

Agreed. No need to make the prosecution's job any easier. Especially since there is no evidence of a crime. Let them eat the 5th amendment ^_^^_^^_^

Your proposal is acceptable. ;)

Personally, I'm good with shutting down the IRS.

Why should they be allowed to keep their doors open after engaging in blatant lawless activity? Why should the management at the IRS receive big bonuses after failing to conduct business affairs in accordance with law. Why should employees at the IRS continue to receive paychecks when no one seems to know who was responsible for the criminal targetting.

Shut it down, revise the tax code to simplify it and start over again with a tax collection agency having transparent oversight and limited powers. Sigh ... it's a thought. :sigh:

No crime was committed. Political groups just deserve extra scrutiny. Nuff said.

And watch the Right keel over from a collective aneurism? Look what happened when the Obama administration tried to revise health care... now you want them to take a shot at the tax code?

Where's the difficulty in that???

1) "What'dya make?" $_________
2) "Multiply line 1 by 0.15 $_________ < That's your base tax liability.
3) "What've we've withheld from you already? $_________
4) "Subtract Line 3 from line 2: $_________
5) "If line 4 is > 0, you owe us that amount.
6) "If line 4 is < 0, we owe you that amount.

All of this certainly shakes the faith in the federal government. I think this article provides a very good analysis.

"We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, probably irretrievably damaged. They don't look jerky now, they look dirty. The patina of high-mindedness the president enjoyed is gone.

Something big has shifted. The standing of the administration has changed.

As always it comes down to trust. Do you trust the president's answers when he's pressed on an uncomfortable story? Do you trust his people to be sober and fair-minded as they go about their work? Do you trust the IRS and the Justice Department? You do not.

The president, as usual, acts as if all of this is totally unconnected to him. He's shocked, it's unacceptable, he'll get to the bottom of it. He read about it in the papers, just like you.

But he is not unconnected, he is not a bystander. This is his administration. Those are his executive agencies. He runs the IRS and the Justice Department."

You expect the government to make that or anything else so simple? So loophole-proof?

Think about it -- the tax code being as complex and convoluted as it is, who benefits? Who has the time and the resources to mine thousands of pages of obscure rules to find the loopholes to make sure they don't pay?

The same people who give, and give generously, to put those politicians in their pockets.

Also, what do the following people have in common?

 • Michael Bloomberg (Mayor of New York City)
 • Sergey Brin (Google)[
 • Larry Ellison (Oracle Corporation)
 • Darren Entwistle (TELUS)[
 • Richard Fairbank (Capital One Financial)
 • Lee Iacocca (Chrysler Corporation)
 • Steve Jobs (Apple)
 • Richard Kinder (Kinder Morgan)
 • James Li (Syntax-Brillian)
 • John Mackey (Whole Foods Market)
 • Joseph Marinaccio (Slam Content)
 • Larry Page (Google)
 • Vikram Pandit (Citigroup)
 • Mark Pincus (Zynga)
 • Richard Riordan (Mayor of Los Angeles)
 • Eric Schmidt (Google)
 • Henry Samueli (Broadcom Corporation)
 • Arnold Schwarzenegger (former Governor of California)
 • Terry Semel (Yahoo!)
 • Pantas Sutardja (Marvell Technology Group)
 • Sehat Sutardja (Marvell Technology Group)
 • Meg Whitman (Hewlett-Packard)
 • Jerry Yang (Yahoo!)
 • Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)

Answer -- They all get paid $1/year.

So, they pay 15 cents while you pay hundreds. Sound like a plan?

Lerner: 'I Have Done Nothing Wrong' - YouTube

Perhaps the congressional committee considers her remarks as a statement of fact, when she's in essence at least giving testimony that she's done nothing wrong, nor broken any IRS regulations, so that what the CC has in their files contradicting that can be used to impeach her statements.
And as such, if she's going to invoke, maybe she's then subject to prosecution for those offenses based on the evidence the CC has acquired.

Guessing. Though perhaps they are going to call her back so she can have a second chance and change her mind.

It's politics after all. If justice ever did find corrupt players a pathway to a federal prison, perhaps then the American people would regain their faith in the system. Especially since if it were us doing the same things in our private middle to lower class communities, we'd be competing with worms for air under the foundations of those self same prisons.

Actually they can and do frequently when they are being scapegoated by an out of control prosecution.

Scapegoated perhaps, but not by the prosecution. Better look at the White House.

Is that what your investigation concluded. Maybe it is just wishful thinking. I vote for the latter since this is just the end of the beginning.

But it isn't the beginning of the end per se. The Republicans will continue to harass members of government with these types of fishing expeditions until the witnesses bravely refuse to answer any more of the same tired questions over and over.

You call a criminal investigation by the DOJ, ordered by Obama, a "fishing expedition?" Wow. Just, wow.
