i don't know if i would really call this a "tradition", per se, but the last 2 years now, i have made "resurrection rolls", which not only tell the Easter story very well, but are also incredibly delicious!!

I could eat a whole batch of these in one setting.

What are they?

You make them with crescent roll mix, butter and marshmallows. The marshmallows disappear but they're still there, so to speak. If you're on Pinterest, I know I have the recipe linked there, if it's the same thing.

you get those crescent rolls in a tube, like pillsbury or something like them, and separate them. then you get a bag of jet puffed marshmallows (which symbolize Christ, the white of the marshmallow symbolizes His purity and sinless nature), and dip them in melted butter (which symbolizes the embalming oils), then roll the marshmallow in cinnamon sugar (which symbolizes the spices used to prepare the body for burial), then roll the marshmallow up in the crescent dough, pinching the ends shut to make sure the marshmallow is good and covered up (this symbolizes the linens He was wrapped in) - once they are all prepared, and placed on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper, place in the oven (which symbolizes the tomb) and bake for 12 minutes.

once the rolls are cool enough to bite into or break open, you'll see what's happened - the marshmallow has disappeared, leaving behind an empty roll, which of course symbolizes the Resurrection!! they are a great project to do with kids, or just something nice to bring to a dinner or pot luck....

Not sure where else I should post this and I really hope I'm not getting on you guys' nerves hanging around here. Anywho, I spoke with one of the pastors about all the reading and learning I've been doing recently as well as a stumbling block or two I've encountered. He was very understanding and it helped a lot. I also asked about the possibility of a new member's class and he let me know that they generally do it on an as needed basis but with my husband and me as well as a few others, it is looking like they do need to start a new one and that he's going to start the process of arranging one. So yay! Moving closer to being able to change that faith icon. :)

That's great news! I enjoyed attending the New Members class! We used the Bible as our textbook and even though I was already Lutheran, I did learn tons from the class :) Enjoy!

So the church that my family and I have been going to has a Saturday evening Divine Service. We really, really like it. Anyway, tonight the sermon was absolutely amazing and answered several questions my husband has had recently. And it kind of affirmed some what I've been thinking about things. Don't you just love when you've got a question or just aren't quite sure about something and you go into church and ta dah! Question answered, just like that? Or does this happen to anyone else?

Dario, I was in your neck of the woods over the weekend. We stopped in JC on our way to my daughter's state gymnastics meet in Salina. We stopped at Freddy's on Saturday for steakburgers and frozen custard. Delicious!

Yes, my wife started asking me a bunch of questions once and I couldn't totally answer all of them and then we had a sermon on the topic which answered those questions for her.

My husband is getting a little antsy about communion. We stopped attending our old church right after Christmas, did about about two months worth of research, and then started attending the LCMS church here at the end of February. We've been told that the next new members class will most likely be held in the fall once school starts back up again. They don't want to do it during the summer because a lot of people leave Alaska in the summer. Anyway, I'm perfectly fine with waiting but my husband is like, "Do you realize that it may be a year between the last time we had communion and the next time we have it if we wait until we're through the classes." I do realize that and it doesn't bug me but he's getting really impatient. I told him that if it was bothering him that badly, he could have a conversation with one of the pastors. He was noncommittal to that suggestion. I just wish he'd be more patient.

If he makes his desire known to the pastor I'm sure that he'll accommodate and have some sort of instruction to prepare him for the Sacrament sooner. I've done that for someone who was very eager to receive the Sacrament.

I agree, if you are attending the church, showing agreement with the doctrines of the church, and are looking to join the church, I see no reason why the pastors would not work with you so that you may receive the sacrament sooner.

So as of today my family and I have finally attended all three types of services offered at our church. We did go to the full contemporary service once and didn't care for it too much so we've been attending a semi-contemporary service but they've changed the schedule for summer and it works better for us to attend the traditional service now. The service we attended today was absolutely beautiful and the sermon really spoke to me. It's definitely my favorite service.

It is beautiful here too. Unfortunately, I've been putting off some housekeeping for at least a couple of weeks so I'm kind of stuck inside trying to get caught up. Hopefully, I'll get to take a walk around my neighborhood this evening.
