I thought all priests and nuns belonged to some religious order or another?

Nuns and monks are in orders.

Priests may be, but many are not, especially parish priests.

In the past decades, for a variety of reasons, it has been fairly common to see priests who are members of monastic communities serving as parish priests as well, because of shortages. There are a lot of problems with that though, and recently there has been a pull back from the orders, IIRC under the direction of the higher parts of the Church to try and concentrate more on the missions of the orders.

Monks and nuns belong to religious orders, but not all priests are monks. The majority are secular clergy, meaning that they have no affiliation with a religious order.

No. Regular parish priests are called "secular priests" and are not members of a religious order.

There are religious orders which serve as parish priest.

The Lasalette Order serves as parish priest. My friend RIP was a Lasalette Priest.

Also, Discalced Carmelite Friars serve in parishes, but it's not their main ministry.

Also, there are Franciscans which serve as parish priest.

The majority however are what is referred to as secular priests. They do not take vows. Obedience and celibacy are implied at ordination.

But it doesn't matter that he's a bishop 24/7. The question that matters is whether he was doing business for the diocese or acting in an official capacity when the accident occurred. If he was just out partying, then it wouldn't apply.

Yeah. I mean even if he was acting in an official capacity even that wouldn't guarantee that a respondeat theory would hold. That detour vs frolic distinction muddies the waters a bit.

I know... I was being sarcastic. That's all part of the problem. They are for the most part secular. These priest and bishops who are religious royalty, much like our congress, live very comfortable lives, out of touch with real people, IMO, only, of course. They're very close to how they apostles lived. Son of Man has no where to lay His head... well, they have a comfortable bed, I'm sure.

Most of them are not living the high life. It is not like they have huge salaries.

A lot of orders are trying to get out of that kind of work though. It tends to compromise their work when members are pulled into parish work. They can't really do either job well.

Well, not the Lasalettes, it's part of their mission.

you are kidding right?

I was answering Bene's question for her. She seems to be saying that priests have too much stuff and saying Jesus didn't even have a bed. I just took her argument all the way to its conclusion.

Naturally, I disagree with her premise.

Priests should all be homeless and have to beg for food.

No, they just need to stop thinking they are above the law and that their actions do not cause harm to the faithful. They need to be held accountable for what they do/ don't do and take reasonability for what they screw up and when they screw up.

They need to realize what a great reasonability they alone have in this world. They need to play the part... and stop living cushy privileged lives. Scandal. Look it up and stop glossing over that this something REAL. The faithful has been scandalized over and over again by the actions of the men and women who run the Church.

I agree that they are not above the law. I just don't see them living cushy lives like you suggest. Certainly not our local parish priests.

Our Parish Priests have cushy lives. They always know where their next meal is coming from. Their home is air conditioned. They are provided with excellent health care. They are able to use automobiles to travel wherever they please. Among all of the people who have lived on this planet, my Priest is clearly in the top 1% comfort wise.

I'm not saying that any of these luxuries are unreasonable, just that we need to remember that we are free from want in a way that very few have been before. Even our poor know comforts beyond what people just 200 years ago could have imagined. The fact that others have more doesn't make what we have less awesome unless we let it.
