It is either all coming down or we are done. The news has broken on various sites.

[FONT=Verdana,Sans-serif]HINGTON (AP) - The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative's top executive called a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into how news organizations gather the news.
The records obtained by the Justice Department listed outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, for general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and for the main number for the AP in the House of Representatives press gallery, according to attorneys for the AP. It was not clear if the records also included incoming calls or the duration of the calls.
In all, the government seized the records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. The exact number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period is unknown, but more than 100 journalists work in the offices where phone records were targeted, on a wide array of stories about government and other matters.

are you intentionally misleading us? i see no mention of anyone 'bugging' phone lines. there were phone records subpoenaed and collected legally to find out who had leaked details of a CIA operation in Yemen, what CIA Director John Brennan called an "unauthorized and dangerous disclosure of classified information." (to quota your article).

why do so many obama opponents seem to need to alter their thread titles to mislead?

What makes this scandalous isn't simply getting a subpoena for phone records, but how broad the records subpoenaed were. In a quoted statement from the AP in another article I read (on the Guardian I think) the AP said that those records could reveal a large number of their confidential sources.

Add into this the recent IRS story, and renewed interest from whistle-blower's about Benghazi and it turns in to a PR nightmare. The President of transparency is viciously going after whistle-blowers, subpoenaing a media organization's phone records, and oversaw an IRS that intentionally targeted political groups on the other side of the political spectrum.

Ultimately what will make this bad for Obama and the Democratic party is the betrayal of public trust this will be seen as.

Do I hear drums of impeachment? - Nah - his hands are clean - didn't have a thing to do with it - only heard about it last Friday when the rest of us heard about it - Sure
Accessing phone records is grounds for impeachment now? Why do you people insist on making all this song and dance about nothing issues like this, and yet never mention the things he's done that are actually impeachment worthy? You know, like extrajudicial killings and such?

This just adds another layer - it is all piling up.
How does this add anything to it?

Intentionally killing people unilaterally without judicial oversight = impeachable

Obtaining phone records = Not impeachable

See how they';re not the same?

Because people generally have no idea what's legal and illegal.

Well, let's see.....

We have Obamacare, in which the government is forcing the people to buy a specific product---nowhere is the Federal government given that power in the Constitution;

We have Fast and Furious, where the Justice Department gives guns and money to Mexican drug pushers;

We have the IRS trying to find a way to nail non-profit conservative groups that the "administration" doesn't happen to like;

We have the highest levels of the "administration" sitting on their hands while an ambassador and three other Americans are murdered, then they lie about it to the people;

And now we have the Justice Department trying to find ways to nail news organizations who broke the Benghazi story , probably to silence them.

You Obots can think whatever you like, and you will anyway. As far as I'm concerned, Barak Obama is a treasonous criminal, and he and his Attorney General both ought to be behind bars. This "administration" is the most corrupt, power-hungry, and poisonously non-democratic pack of liars, thieves, opportunists and scumbags to ever head a government since the start of the Third Reich.

If the country manages to survive Comrade Obama and his bunch of gangsters, it will be in spite of them, not because of them. Personally, I have my doubts. This bunch of idiots is going to send us into an economic nose-dive that will end up rivaling the deposition of Romulus Augustulus and the beginnings of the Dark Ages.

Look on the bright side of things:

Obama has now practically assured that he will have no cooperation outside of his party in doing anything by continuing to blast conservatives about Benghazi when it turned out they were right all along about the administration doing some good ole fashioned butt covering. That of course doesn't even take into account the IRS fiasco and the Congressional hearings that will accompany it.

The administration has now been caught in a lie (possibly two depending on how the IRS situation pans out) and has been hounding the media with subpoenas. Both of which will squander the public's trust and confidence in the administration.

So now we get two and a half years of a lame duck president that's nothing more than a suit in a mansion AND Obama is setting up his party for failure in 2014/2016 unless they can successfully distance themselves from him.

Basically this whole situation is turning into one big early Christmas gift for the Republican party.

I wish you were right, but you forget about his Executive Orders - he will still do much damage before this bunch of liers, treasonists and power hungry socialists gets out of office. All of them that took an oath to protect our Constitution should be behind bars. They have not reached the end of the Saul Alinsky manual yet. There is still some kick in us - but they are trying harder than ever.

I wouldn't be too worried about the executive orders. They're extremely limited in what they can do and can be quickly and easily rescinded by the next president.

Between this and the abuse of the IRS (if Obama was involved in that... which seems likely considering that he greatly from it) I can't dismiss impeachment as a fringe opinion. This is Nixon 2.0.

It probably won't happen for political reasons. But wow.

Thanks for your intelligent analysis. Your a breath of fresh air from the usual sycophants. :)

Seizing records of 22 AP reporters and using the IRS as ones personal muscle would make Richard Nixon blush. Holder has recused himself from the upcoming criminal investigation. The FBI is now investigating.

We cannot have goon squads intimidating Jews, Conservatives and our free press. The IRS targeted Jewish groups, conservative groups and reporters.
