The Word of God is like a great supper to which many are invited.
Luke 14:15-20 KJV
(15) And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
(16) Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
(17) And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
And yet some began to decline to attend because they did not have time .for they were seemingly too preoccupied with other things and had no real interest in attending. With one consent, they all began to make excuse for their not accepting His invitation to His great supper ..the marriage supper of the Lamb.
(18) And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
(19) And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
(20) And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
The marriage supper of the Lamb = the speaking of the true sayings of God. The Scriptures are opened up to our understanding and we are invited to hear His voice speaking to us the wonderful things of God and keep the things we hear.
Revelation 19:9 KJV
(9) And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Blessed are those servants whom the Lord when He comes shall find watching. He comes in an HOUR when we are not expecting Him. Perhaps this hour will not be convenient for some who will not be watching. We have to always be ready. Will we have time for Him when He comes speaking to us?
Those watching will hear His voice knocking upon the door of their hearts and they will open up unto Him immediately. He shall gird Himself and make them to sit down to meat and will come forth and serve them. He will serve them a great supper not hors d'oeuvres. He will give them the full course .the mysteries of the kingdom.
Luke 12:35-40 KJV
(35) Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
(36) And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
(37) Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
(38) And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
(39) And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
(40) Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
He stands at the door and knocks. If we hear His voice and open the door, He will come in to our hearts and will sup with Him and He with us.
Revelation 3:20 KJV
(20) Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Even those who will receive Him into their house need to cease from their own works in order to sit at the feet of Jesus in order to hear His Word. Martha was anxious and troubled about many things. She was too busy being cumbered about much serving to really sit down and hear His Word.
Luke 10:38-42 KJV
(38) Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
(39) And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
(40) But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
(41) And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
(42) But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
The cares of this world or age can rob us of the time and attention to hear the Word and keep it. We can hear the Word but the anxiety of this age can choke it out and it becomes unfruitful.
Matthew 13:22 KJV
(22) He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
There is a great reward in receiving His Word and keeping it.
