"For the time is coming when men will not tolerate wholesome teaching. They will want something to tickle their own fancies, and they will collect teachers who will pander to their own desires. They will no longer listen to the truth, but will wander off after man-made fictions." JBP

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. KJV

The times has come and is here today. There are those who know what the Words says, but because they do not like what it says, seek after a teacher who will tell them what they want to hear.

Some say they "have always been a Christian". They say they cannot remember ever NOT being a Christian. And when someone points out to them the Words of Jesus, "Ye must be born again", they rebel. They know they have not been born again, so they seek one who will tell them, indeed they have. And this false teaching they cling to and harden their heart to the Truth of God's Word.

These who do not remember meeting Jesus, but have just always known He was with them, or has ALWAYS been in their heart, can, on the other hand, tell you all about the time they met a celebrity or someone who is big in their eyes. They can tell you the date, time, place, what they were wearing, etc., etc.

Well if you can remember these things, but can't remember anything about meeting Jesus, you might want to search your heart. You might want to divest yourself of your teachers and listen to the Words of Jesus.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

ohn 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Amen Gerry! For years I tried to be a Christian by following what others were teaching me. While I can say I know God was always there watching over me, I can also honestly say I was not with Him. As a matter of fact He told me as much! :(

It wasn't untill I asked The Lord to teach me Himself, and searched for Him with all my heart and soul, that I was able to become Born Again. :)

Here's just another scripture to go along with what you've posted

Psalms 4:2
O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? How long will ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood?

Oh! Good addition. And you know when you are born again, if you attend a service where the speaker is not speaking the truth, the Spirit of God in you will let you know by not agreeing with him. That is another of the many ministries of the Precious Holy Spirit. he will always be guiding you in ALL Truth. Praise Him for His ministry to believers.

Yes Gerry! It amazes me how the Spirit will agree or disagree with what is being said during a service by a speaker. I find even when just reading something although it sounds good at first, there will be something inside of me, telling me wait that's not right! sometimes there will be much truth mixed in with falshoods, ment only to lead others astray. I'll thank the Lord always for the guidance of His Holy Spirit!

Yeah! There is so much about the ministry of the Precious Holy Spirit, that New Borns do not understand, and those of us who are more mature, simply take for granted. WOW! May God forgive us for that. He is Sweeter than sugar and Jesus called Him the Comforter, and Oh My, is He ever!!! Today, I cannot imagine life without Him!

John 14:24-31: "I have said all this while I am still with you. But the one who is coming to stand by you, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will be your teacher and will bring to your minds all that I have said to you." I leave behind with you - peace; I give you my own peace and my gift is nothing like the peace of this world. You must not be distressed and you must not be daunted. You have heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you really loved me, you would be glad because I am going to my Father, for my Father is greater than I. And I have told you of it now, before it happens, so that when it does happen, your faith in me will not be shaken. I shall not be able to talk much longer to you for the spirit that rules this world is coming very close. He has no hold over me, but I go on my way to show the world that I love the Father and do what he sent me to do ... Get up now! Let us leave this place."

How beautiful! And what an application for us! Let us get up and leave this place. That is the place where we now are spiritually. Let us go on to perfection in Him, and be about our Father's business.

Hi Gerry and everyone. I loved reading this thread. As most of you know, I've strayed from the path and have only recently sought to be in fellowship with God again. One thing is for sure, out of His protective care he allowed me to go. I was miserable and too stubborn to admit it. One thing I could never forget was the day God chose me to be His child and I accepted. I could not get low enough not to remember that.

When i first moved to the South, I saught church after church. I have always loved praise and worship music and walked into this church that on the surface appeared on fire for God. The music brought me right up to heaven, the prayers just lovely. I was so excited. The Pastor walks up to the podium and holds up the Bible. I almost should Praise to God for the LIving Word. What happened next was like a cold blanket to me. The Pastor said, we don't need this Bible, its time for us to stop reading the Bible and start doing God's work. Then he threw the Bible in the trash. I was shocked at that, but more so, I was in a huge church filled with people who jumped up and cheered.

I stayed for the whole service and never went back (the rest of the 'sermon' was on the Pastor's pet mission project and was asking for money). I had never felt so cheated out of worship and so worried for people.

Gerry and all here, I do have a question for you. I went to a church recently where the Pastor they have hired is an awesome Evanglist. When he is preaching, well you have no doubt God is with him. I've never seen a service where he did not lead someone to accept Jesus as their Savior. He didn't mince any words, just preached for the lost needing their Savior. Yet as a pastor and church administrator, frankly, he was terrible. I'm not going into everythign I experienced there, (personallyl and witnessed) but it was appalling. It had really discouraged me.

Its been five years now since I moved to the South (the Bible belt) and I STILL haven't felt God calling me to a church like He did up North. I KNOW I need fellowship of other Christians. Without a doubt.

Since I don't seem to feel direction from God with "which" church, how do I go about just "picking" one and serving there?

I just don't want to make the wrong choice like I did before.

Hi Reeann,

Odd how you have been on my mind the last few days, wondering why I have not seen you around the forums. Course that could be my on fault as I don't travel as much as I used to.

The question you have asked is difficult to answer in a word or two. Reason being that we are all at different points and levels of maturity in our Christian walk, and sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

All we can do really is to judge a Church in the Light of His WRITTEN Word.
Which is exactly what you did in the church you attended that was CLEARLY a cult of some kind, REGARDLESS of what name hung on the sign outside the door.

When a man throws the Bible in the trash, and the people stand and cheer THAT is a cult, and a cult following. If you think you were horrified, think what it did to Jesus! I know I was horrified just to read what you wrote.

My suggestion is to first pray and ask God to lead you to the Church HE would have you in, and DO NOT listen to "advice" from family and friends. Listen to God.

It may be that you will have to attend a few Churches before you find one that "agrees" with your spirit, or the Spirit in you, but so be it. No matter how God leads you in your search, when you arrive, you will "know".

Do not be mislead by signs. Like "Full Gospel" or Baptist, or any other sign.
Seems there are always those Churches that advertise one thing outwardly, but inside or something different.

Likewise if you attend a Baptisit Church, for example, and the experience is bad, don't assume that all Baptist Churches are like that. I do almost always reccommend a Baptist Church for new converts or those renewing their walk because generally they teach fundamental Bible basics. From there you can go whereever God leads you, but I do think it is important to get a basic Bible foundation to stand on, so that you are able to discern, and will not be blown about by every interpretation of Bible Doctrine.

I am sorry to say, you wil find no perfect Church, on this earth at this time.
But remember, the important thing is to keep your focus on Jesus and not other's. Just as Peter began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus, so do we.

The THREE most important things to look for in a Church is JESUS, JESUS, JESUS!!! The Bible tells us that God IS Love, and Jesus is God. LOVE is impossible to hide, and Christians never want to. You will know if God is in a particular Church by the amount of Love you experience there.

One Church I attended for a short time in Columbus Georgia was so filled with Love, that when you opened the door to the Sanctuary, you could FEEL it like a blast of warm air from a furnace.

I pray that God will lead you to a place where you may grow and mature and be edified and blessed while being a blessing to others and bringing Glory and Honor to His Name.

I agree. One thing rang clear here. The church I was saved in (i'll tell you the wonderful story of how I came about to even BE there! LOL) was a Southern Baptist one in Maryland. I know exactly waht your talking about the leading of the Spirit and knowing. I couldn't wait for the doors to open again every time I left that place (and the doors usually were always open). I used to joke about the Pastor putting a cot in the nursery for me too. He said, sure go ahead, can't spend too much time in worshiping in my opinion. I guess I keep looking for a church JUST LIKE the one I left.

Regardless, i KNOW I need to serve somewhere. and agree 100%. I don't think my struggles were any different back then than they are now. The difference was the fellowship and the constant pointing to Christ. I think you all must be praying for me because my husband (who said he wouldn't step foot in a church again) came to me and said he would go with me Sunday to the big white church that we pass everyday to work. (logn story there, I won't go into it). I'm floored. He knows I've been struggling to find a church and he is doing this for me. But nothing says God can't change his mind either! *grins*, i know i haven't been able too! *winks* Men! :p

Thank you all, I have a real peace today about this. SOrry I haven't been on the boards more, I am just busy busy busy.

love and blessing to you all

Reeann
