I think He cares about how it will affect the individuals involved, how it will change them and their lives. Somehow I doubt that He influences the outcomes, though.
A fair number of Americans would disagree.

If God cares about sports, he is definitely not a fan of Cleveland sports teams.

Not even Cleveland residents are fans of Cleveland sports teams. :sput:

The ones that are truly tortured are we Houstonians.... we suffer the Oilers, we suffer the Texans (Capers Era) the Texans of the Kubiak era, are good yet..... well........ you know how thats played out so far.

The Astros...... make it to the world series only to look like complete butt...... and well again, Im sure you know how that plays out.

The Rockets.... yeah, the Rockets beat the curse.... but its basket ball........ golf is more exciting IMO and I would rather set my TV on fire, smash it with a hammer then throw it out the window than watch golf.

Pastor claims God told him Robert Guererro would beat Floyd Mayweather - YouTube

I just watched the video above where a Pastor claims God told him this boxer would win. The Pastor also claims a fist from heaven would come down and beat the other boxer.

I just wanted to know whether God is really concerned about such things? What would happen if both fighters believe in God and also say there are 2 teams who both have Christian players and fans how does God determine who would win?
No,I do not think so.When I played football in Junior High School, and in High School,I always, before the games, prayed that no one would get badly injured. But,I never prayed that my team would win.

Now,I do not even pray for my 49ers to win. Now,I will admit that I do not pray everyday. However,I take prayer very seriously. Even though I am a big fan of my favorite football team, there are more important things in life that a football game.
Oh,yes,I guess David VS Goliath of Gath, was the world's first recorded upset.

But doesn't your argument only work if there are no believers on the opposing team?

Couldn't God just choose the team that has the most faith in Him, and let them win?

There are so many possible reasons why God could control the outcome of a game. Maybe He wants to reward someone's faith and hard work with a win. Maybe He wants someone to learn that losing isn't the end of the world. It could be anything...

In the end, it's just a game. It's not like He's saying, "I choose this team to win and go to Heaven."

It could be worse. We could be Buffalo Bills fans, who went to four straight Super Bowls to lose all four, and then haven't done anything sense. My friend and I had a conversation about what we thought went through Bills fans' minds when they won that fourth consecutive AFC title "surely we can't lose FOUR in a row".
or Jets fans, I don't think that requires an explanation.

The Astros...... make it to the world series only to look like complete butt...... and well again, Im sure you know how that plays out.

That world series sweep could have just easily been us sweeping the White Sox. I think all but one game was decided by 1 run and also the longest game in world series history. The Astros are a GREAT example of how important a good upper management is to having a successful franchise.
Interesting and thought-provoking little tidbit: Former GM Ed Wade was hired from the Phillies, who was our most common trading partner for several years, and when we fired him he went back to the Phillies (that's all I'm saying, take from that what you will). Read the notice above his wikipedia page, it's pretty funny if you're an Astros fan.

The Rockets.... yeah, the Rockets beat the curse.... but its basket ball........ golf is more exciting IMO and I would rather set my TV on fire, smash it with a hammer then throw it out the window then watch golf.

Never really been a huge Rockets fan. I'm a Thunder fan, as you can see from my avatar. I actually do think the NBA is somewhat rigged to a degree.

And maybe his followers are trying to rationalize their believe that God is sending them signals through sports teams? I understand people think that way, but I just don't buy it.

I watched the video.

It was hard to watch.

I didn't used to, but I always find it disturbing when I see a person, especially a pastor, speak to God as if God is his personal power servant. It just feels so wrong and arrogant.

I don't believe God cares about teams and sports.

From having just a basic understanding of who God is and what he wants; which sports team receives the glory of winning a game is trivial.

However, professional sports and their outcomes are a lot more consequential than a "game" as you might think of the word in an everyday sense. No one is getting hired or fired based on the soccer game in your backyard.

for a few years in the early 2000's he did, when he graced tom brady with 3 superbowl rings. brady soon lost the lord's favor when he broke up with his girlfriend and started dating that supermodel. not god approved. god punished brady and the patriots with 2 devastating superbowl losses to eli manning and the new york giants

brady needs to repent if we are to win another superbowl

It is actually crazy how much money changes hands due to sports betting. Not that God would support that, though.

And for anyone who is taking this discussion seriously, when Tebow Mania was taking place, the question posed by the OP was brought up a lot, even by sports commentators. I thought this was a relatively good article on this subject:

I think it comes down to: does God care about what happens to us in our lives? I'd say yes. That would include sporting events that we participate in.

Does He influence everything that happens in our lives? I don't know.

Does losing a game mean you've lost God's favor? NO. That would be a very superficial attitude to have.

Exactly, IF sports are to trivial, then where does he draw that line?

How would that make him any different than any human being on the planet? "Only talk to me about stuff I care about"

You can find that kind of attitude from anyone on the street.

He cares about EVERYTHING His followers care about, period. It has nothing to do with the thing itself, but the fact that one of "His own" care about it.

now we come to the second part. scripture tells us that when our heart and mind are following God that nothing is impoossible to us. there is a true story about a college football team that turned their hearts to God and ended up winning the championship. i cannot remember the title of the movie at this time.
There are also many stories about people turning their hearts to Lucifer and having great worldly success.

A fair number of Americans would disagree.

Since when does the amount of people believing in something determine if it is true or not?
