What exactly does it mean? I'd like to really dissect this, and not just use Bible verses by rote. For instance, what specifically happens when i "bless" God? Is this what causes His heart to smile and rejoice over us with singing? What actually happens when a blessing to God is released from my heart, mind, and soul TO God? Is it mingled with worship, and with praise? It is written that the prayers of the saints rise to GOd like a sweet incense.....do blessings also?

In the liturgy there are several places where the leader addresses the congregation and says "Let us bless the Lord" and the congregation responds "Thanks be to God."

To be blessed is to be pleased. When we bless the Lord we please him by thanking him for what he has done, is doing, and will do for us.

(Incidentally, it really doesn't mean anything we we "bless" the food we eat. Food can't be pleased. :) Not even Happy Meals. We do not bless the food we eat, we thank God for blessing us with food.)

Is it to believe in Jesus Christ?

I'm sure that's tied in with it, yet, somehow i'm thinking it's something that is specific and maybe comes "after" we become a child of God....thinkin' out loud here and meditating on this...thanks for bearing with me.

yes, i've done that so many times, yet it really didn't mean anything to me....i was just sorta repeating what i was told, and my mind was on other things....i'm thinking this 'not meaning it' was not a blessing to God, was it?

hahaaa yes, i ask God to bless the food i eat and to make it a blessing to me (especially in this day and age) :D

Hey Sis, you ever have times when you actually say, "I bless you Father?"
And right before you do, Satan says who do you think you are to bless God?

I have and kick that ole deceiver to the curb and do it louder.

Bless food?sounds like a tradition of men.:o
I thank him for my food.:amen:

Well, it seems like it would kinda' be the same (but not quite) of telling Him i love Him.....but "blessing" Him is different, isn't it?

Lovin' him shore wouldn't be cursing him.

But as we have been made righteous by him, why should we not bless him?

Even though his name is above blessing it's okay.

Nehemiah 9:5 KJVA

Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said ,

Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever:

and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

What does it mean, to "bless" Him? I kinda' know what it means for Him to bless us....it's when He pours out His goodness and favor on us, doesn't it? But what does it mean for us to bless HIM? We can't pour out goodness and favor on Him, right?

That's soooo beautiful! When we sing to Him and praise Him and adore Him, that is blessing HIm, then?.....even if i can't find the words to explain how it blesses Him, it does then?
Well He shows up with hugs and stuff so I'm assuming it does :D
OMGosh how Sweet it is to be in the presence of God.
His love is better than Life, huh?
Fullness of Joy...
What do you think it means to bless God?

i get stuck on the word "bless" God.....it's not the same as Him blessing us. It seems to be tied up with the loving Him part......but somehow i see 'blessings" as His pouring out something on us...i can't fathom us pouring something out on Him.....

I was doing a search and found this...it sorta' gives me a picture (i'm very visual and i need examples or something to grasp onto, for the idea of "blessing" God, because He's not visible. This helps a little:

What Does it Mean to Bless God? | Shepherd's Notes

I gotta keep meditating on it. I just prayed about it, because i want to understand what's going on in the communication when we "bless" God, like what is the exchange like?

I just thought of "bless the Lord O my soul", but our soul is invisible too :swoon:
