Seeing more baby shower photos on facebook reminds me exactly how non-typical of a woman I am. In fact some women are offended by things I find to be clever while they do girly things that manage to offend me.

I personally find it disturbing that you would make a baby effigy out of cake or fruit expecting people to eat it.

I have issues with the idea of eating something that represents a baby.

Or to cut into a cake shaped like a pregnant belly. I personally find these things far more disturbing. I don't want a slice of your baby or of your belly. Thanks.

I find baby cakes to be gross, too. Cutting into a cake that looks like a baby is just creepy. I do like the pregnant belly cakes, but mostly as art. I even had one as a FB profile pic for awhile. If I had a baby shower, I would have preferred cupcakes, though. (Well, I prefer cupcakes to a whole/regular cake in general.) Baby showers can be very weird in general, though. I mean, candy bars in diapers as a game? No thank you. People pointing out how fat you are and wanting to guess your weight (actually happened at my sister's baby shower). No thank you.

I find baby showers/bridal showers to be disturbing and I avoid them if at all possible. Sometimes they're ok, but there's usually that one awkward moment where the game goes wrong or it's just an awkward game. I HATED the chocolate in diapers game that I had to do in one baby shower...ugh!

When I was a kid I found the concept of a baby shower confusing. I didn't understand why men couldn't go and how the baby could have a shower when it hadn't even been born yet. 20 years later and they still confuse (and in some cases scare me) beyond comprehension.

Cupcakes are cute! I love the gender reveal cakes too.

I've never played the candy bar diaper game and hope that I never have to.

Guesses on weight? wow. Thats really dumb and just wrong - why would anyone think that'd make for a fun shower game?

I second this...

THANK YOU. I'm not the only one...

I'm so glad to see the responses to this post that I did. I was expecting crickets or backlash. Very glad to not be alone on the baby cake issue.

I think at times games seem forced. Nobody really wants to play the majority of these "fun" games that are listed.

Men can go to some baby showers but for the most part I think that some women want it to be "girl time" to discuss baby things that men are presumed to find boring/gross.

Some baby showers allow for the whole family to join in. I think those are the best because they focus on the joy of the family unit.

I like showers. Good friends, food and games.

Sure some of the items on the menu wouldn't be my choice or a few of the games not my preference but overall, it isn't about those things. Just a chance to celebrate a new little life or the beginning of a marriage.

To be honest- most cake that involves *gag* decorators frosting is completely nasty and inedible. I would rather eat a brownie than any wedding cake.

I am tired of people (including myself) getting wrapped up in the minuta of everyday life.

Took me a total of 4 hrs last week to walk out of a bank with Blank forms (teller did not know how to print them from her computer)...she had to call main branch, the person she thought would not did not answer (voice mail)..Had to call bk. page somebody-who got confused in the process...yada yada yada...FINALLY got em in time to hit 5:00 pm traffic which put me even further behind in the things I needed to get done....like flippin taxes :) Knew what forms I needed and turns out the teller had em all along (just was unsure she could let a "customer" have em) in her desk drawer...say whaaaaat? Strange dreams...
It involved time travel with David Tennant, a strange mystery at a hospital, a really fascinating dermatologist, and Mrs. Luther as speaking in a German accent.

Apart from that it's actually quite complicated involving theories on neuroplasticity and human adaptation.
