How would you respond if your friend(s) posted a status on facebook labeling people who believe xyz as bigots, and you happen to believe in xyz because it's a part of your religious beliefs?

Do you ignore it? Block their posts so you can't see their comments? Address it? Unfriend them?

What are your thoughts? Is it ok to call your friends bigots or is that crossing the line?

Not have Facebook. But only few are as privileged as I am to be able to do so.

Ignore it; "Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse." Romans 12:14.

That means more than just profanity, as CF uses it. It also includes slander and verbal abuse. You may defend yourself, but do just that. Don't retaliate verbally or attack anyone else.

I would just ignore it. Facebook is for people to express their views it is their Facebook that goes for both sides of the fence.

If it really bothers you send them a private message explaining that it hurts your feelings. I wouldn't be rude or angry come from a place of love. Give scripture to back your views. As long as you are respectful I am sure you can have a descent discussion about it.

In times like these it is important to remember not to take the world's opinions of Christian beliefs personally. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, and the spirit behind statements such as those gets just as much satisfaction out of deceiving someone into believing them as it does out of hurting the ones to whom they refer.

Respond with love, or better, don't respond at all. Remember, they did not call "you" a bigot, and the best way to show you are not is to love them even though they are deceived.

To use an analogy, if A says "All blond women are dumb" and B is blond, B shouldn't waste energy in getting offended at A's shortsightedness, because not only is the statement inaccurate, it also doesn't apply. B has a Master's Degree for Pete's sake! :p

I get what you're saying. One of the thoughts I'm wrestling with is, if I know I'm friends with blondes, why would I post something on facebook insulting blondes, knowing that my blonde friends will see it? Isn't that just common sense?

We think so because as christians we think like that. None Christians who don;t know the lord can't be held to the same standard. They do not think the same way we do.

And really they have the right to express themselves on Facebook however they want just like you do.

I am pro life and post about it often it is a passion of mine. My pro choice friends probably get upset but I feel it is the truth and it is what I believe. Should I just stop posting all pro life things or all scripture because some people don't like it. No I post what I want on my facebook it is for my opinion. But in doing so I have to respect that people who feel different then me also have that right and I am going to have to read stuff I disagree with also. Its all about being respectful disagree but do it in love. Put yourself in their shoes that you were a sinner just like them once. You were blind just as they are now we can not forget that when dealing with none believers.

Yes and no. The thing is, often people don't put a whole lot of thought into the consequences of their words. You are right, they SHOULD lol but unfortunately that doesn't always happen.

I once wrote a status where I was angry because a man was walking his pit without a leash. Now, my close friends know I'm not a pit hater, but because I wrote "this guy was walking his pit bull without a leash and that's against the law because its dangerous!" a friend of mine got offended and blasted me right there on my status about being a "hater of defenseless dogs who are only dangerous if they are trained to be."

She took it way wrong, and looking back I realize if I had just said "dog" I could have avoided the whole thing.

I made myself look bad, because I forgot in my frustration that it was a sensitive subject, and she got upset before thinking to ask me about it.

James 1:19, "Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."

I say be patient and pray about it. Jesus when He was reviled did not speak back nor say anything negative to His accusers. Follow His example :)

1 Peter 2:23, "and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;"

God bless you!

Hmmm I have been taking a personal class on the fruit of being judgmental.
It does nothing but cause division.

Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.

I Thank God people here are very forgiving I am learning something

Thank God people in this country are free to believe as they wish. I have friends from religions other than mine and we agree to disagree and not discuss matters of religion individually.

Believe as you believe and allow others the same. In other words say nothing. Remember as Christians one task we are assigned is "not to be easily offended". Try that.

Personally, I would have engaged. Not to defense myself, mainly, but to properly educate them. Most people who spout off like that are just repeating something they've heard, and have not given it much thought.

I would have started with some "Columbo" questions. Why do you feel they are bigots? What is your definition of a bigot?

Things like that.

I would tell them that they are bigots for calling me a bigot.;)

If they don't agree with xyz and call me a bigot then they are the bigots by not believing in xyz as I do. Those calling other bigots need to look in the mirror. :)
