If ya don't like them, don't read them.

That much is true.

No hate speech whatsoever.

That doesn't follow. They are hate speech in the sense that they tend to draw the "villians" as ugly (both body and soul). Example:

How is that NOT hate speech? D&D players are being villified.

Now, perhaps it doesn't fall under legal definitions of hate speech because that applies to sex, race, gender orientation, religion, etc, and not to clubs such as a D&D group. In that case, those Chick Tracts that attack Catholics are hate speech, and of course those that attack non-Christian religions such as the pagans (or whatever they are) that are behind Dungeons and Dragons.

But I don't object all that much to hate speech. It's okay to take a moral stance on an issue, and to portray evil people as evil. One may criticize the hate speech for its lack of reality, but not for calling a spade a spade.

I have to admit, they are good for entertainment value.

Jack Chick's idea of reality:

LOL!

eudaimonia,

It's kind of like the "panic" over Harry Potter, where the far right wing fundies were urging that she was putting "real" spells in her books, and that JK was a "real" witch. Sigh. They don't even realize how many people they push away with that nonsense.

I've really only read the ones against D&D, quite a few years ago. I also found them unintentionally very funny. Basically, within the D&D people I knew, they were considered jokes.

The ones I've seen don't really rise to the level of "hate speech". Ignorant as can be, sure. If there are some truly vicious ones out there, I haven't seen them.

Well golly gee, I suppose if you don't like what they say...THEN DON'T READ THEM!!!!

"Know thy enemy" is a good adage to live by. I think we should fight such vitrolic hatred as the Chick tracts, don't you?

^_^

The biggest issue is that the information presented in those tracts about certain people and groups is highly inaccurate to the point of absurdity. It's bearing false witness. Plus, the theology being pushed is terrible.

*tilts head*

We generally do not. However, it's such batexcrement insane vile hatred that it's a little hard to completely avoid them out of a sense of morbid curiosity. And we Christians have to know what they say because plenty of non-Christians read them and come to the conclusion that Christians are generally ignorant hatemongers.

Myself, I put Jack Chick nearly on the same level as jesus-is-lord.com and Fred Phelps.
