In general I don't care for my job very much. But there are things about it that are certainly great, like getting to name my own price and creating my own hours. I pretty much have full control over my schedule. O, the joys of being self-employed. :)

What would I like to be doing? ...Acting. That is all.

I don't actively dislike it, but it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I like being a teacher, but for me it's the wrong age group (namely, teenagers—I'd rather work either with little kids or mature adults; there's something about those in between that keeps me from connecting) and the wrong subject matter (I teach building construction, which I'm good at from experience, but not passion).

I'm a undergraduate psychology student, and absolutely love my field of choice. The funny thing to me is that if you asked me when I was a senior in high school, "Would you believe that you will end up majoring in psychology?" I would have said "no way would I ever do that."

I like it. I'm an information technology analyst at a university. I also have a small consulting business on the side, but my day job takes priority. Although my interests outside of work are wide-ranging, this is my chosen career.

Am impressed with people doing cool things like working from home and consulting on the side or teaching!
I am an advisor for adult social services and have been there for five years by far my longest time in a job.... And I am ready to leave but haven't been able there are so many candidates and so few jobs! The interviews in county council are so pesky - you just have to be able to answer certain questions in a certain way and can't present your case or whatever.

And the pay is good for what we do but then it's quite draining cos you're always encountering people whose lives are messed up by disability and Alzheimer's in their family n stuff....also being on the phone all day!

But God sure has healed me and increased my confidence in so many ways through it.

Best job i ever did though I can't afford to do - working in a bookshop :)

I love my work but its a bit too long for my liking. I wish I can work from 9:00am to 5pm not 8:15 am to 7 pm :(

I often work 6 Am to 5:30 or 6PM with anywhere from 2-6 hours off in the middle. So, you're work hours don't sound too bad to me. :p

You are a strong person!!

Ah, thanks honey. It was an experience. I do miss getting out and away from the bosses and the exercise. I averaged about 13 1/2 miles a day back then. I could eat whatever I wanted. Sigh. I don't miss the heat, the cold, or the rain and snow. :)

I pretty much hate my job.

I work retail. So you can imagine what a craphole that is. I took the job because it was the first job i got after i finished college. It pays well, but its prob the hardest thing iv done in my life. THe company expects me to be a miracle worker and get the job of 20 people dont with only 15 people. So far iv failed to work that miracle.

There's a reason I will only ever go back to retail if its my only choice. I'm great at customer service, and can even handle the rude and obnoxious customers - I can only think of one instance off the top of my head where I couldn't calm them down when they were riled up. And thats because I'm pretty sure she escaped from an insane asylum.

For me its a management issue - if the management can't treat me with respect and understand I am only one person then I can't handle it. And unfortunately most retail places seem to manage in the same way :/

Definitely not a job for the weak.

i have a blast. there are times when it's busy and things get hectic, but i've learned to not over-extend myself. there have been times in the past where i overworked to compensate but i no longer do that because what happens when your boss sees that you do that, they assume you will put out your neck and just do it. they will use you.

now i don't really care.

Its not easy even for management (cause im management). But, i think im one of the very few management people that people like at the store level. Maybe casue im not a jerk to them and treat them like human beings. But, my boss is a totally diff story.

Yeah, I can honestly think of only one boss at my last retail job who treated us like actual people. I think its easy for managers to get lost in the demands of the job and force that pressure on the people that work for them. Its rare to find a manager who actually respects and appreciates their people.

When I worked in a retail job I had nice supervisors and co-workers. :D I was fortunate I guess. The job tired me out but I loved it. It was constant customer service, and I found it interesting. :D I did have a few problems with customers but was able to direct them to my supervisor when they didn't believe anything I told them. If I was a manager I don't know how I would have handled it each time. Some of the customers didn't seem likely to be appeased, even with the truth. :D

Myself I don't have a job, but have been looking for a while now. I'm not picky at the moment.

That was a big reason why I never pursued a management spot in any of my customer service jobs. My bosses at my last job kept trying to push me in that direction, but I had enough stress without adding that onto it. And they didn't pay enough for the added stress. Plus, I knew how attitudes changed towards people once they became managers. Where once they were loved, suddenly they were the enemy. Far too much drama for me to tolerate.

I hope you find a good job soon

I think the biggest thing reason a lot management has those attitudes is because they are generally dealing with two extremes.

1. You have the employees who do their best and take some pride in their work.

2. You have the employees who dont do anything, dont have any pride in the work they do and pretty much walk around and collect a paycheck.

I see the two extremes everyday. Im very appreciative of the ones who try their best. Those are the people i would even give a break to now and then, if their performance takes a dip because of some reason (not feeling well or family issues etc). But, those who dont do anything all day and have absolutely no pride in the job they do. Those are the ones that tick me off to no ends.

There is a lot of pressure on management. But the good employees take some of that pressure off becuase they do their job. However, the bad employees are the ones that put management in a bad mood because as management i know ill have to clean up their mess everyday. Its sad that people with such low motivation are in the workforce. But i guess in retail its hard to be picky.
