Might as well jump in the deep end ...
Satan is a name.. which is capitalized. "it" is the event..
My understanding- in mid-eastern cultures, and especially early Hebrew culture, names are/were very important. To remove one's name was an insult.
Also, since in Hebrew there are no capitals, any capitalizing we do is strictly arbitrary.
We are never given a name of ha satan, the enemy. The word "satan" means adversary (Strong's H7854)
The closest we get to a proper name is with the term "lucifer" in Isaiah 14:12, "How did you come to fall from the heavens, morning star, son of the dawn? How did you come to be cut to the ground, conqueror of nations?"
Even for translations which capitalize the word, like the KJV, Strong's lists it as "
heylel" הֵילֵל
From
הָלַל (H1984)
(in the sense of brightness); Lucifer = "light-bearer"
1) shining one, morning star, Lucifer
a) of the king of Babylon and Satan (fig.)
This is more of a description than a name. However, even if it is a proper name, it describes ha satan before the fall. Never again is he referred to "by name".
To give him back what Elohim removed is an insult to Elohim.
