When I turned on the television last Friday and switched channels to CNN, I began receiving news about the Newtown Tragedy. Like most Americans and many in other countries, I was shocked and horrified to hear that twenty-six children and teachers had been murdered at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Like most tragedies of this scope, it didn’t all sink in right away. The first thing that hit me was the report than twenty of the deaths had been children. But it wasn’t until later that day that the ages of the children were announced. They were not much older than babies ranging from 6 to 7 years old.

I can’t remember how long it took, maybe one or two days when the first pictures of the children and teachers were shown on TV. I do remember that after they began showing the children’s pictures I began to sob uncontrollably. I bet many of you have had similar reactions.

This is a centralized thread where CF members and staff can talk about our feelings, thoughts and prayers regarding Newtown. Let’s be gentle with each other here. Let this thread be a safe place to talk and share and pray. I will be praying in a while in the thread and encourage everyone who desires to participate.

Faithfully,

Why?
Ephesians 2:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Our Hope:
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I just observed the National Moment of Silence a 9:30 a.m. There a churches ringing bells around our country in thought, recognition and prayer. They showed the pictures of the kids and teachers again with a lady singing Amazing Grace at a Church in Hartford. I prayed for the victims and survivors as well.

Heavenly Father, we need your help finding our way through these tragedies. Please hold us close to you during this time of grief and remembrance. Please give us strength, courage and determination to bring whatever good we can from all of this, and keeping in the forefront of our hearts and minds, the love you have for us. Let us help each other during our time of sorrow. Thank you Lord for all you are doing in our lives. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

Amen!

I'm still in shock and its soooo hard not to be bitter. God says we need to forgive and leave room for His will to be done and so I do ...but if this was my own child ...

I can't even imagine but I would be a mess right now!

Heavenly Father may Your will be done for these grieving families, may your grace cover them in a tangible way. And I don't know how but I believe you will turn their mourning to laughter again some day and I pray their broken hearts can rest in you till that day comes.

You are the Almighty one who heals!

In Jesus name , amen

One of the saddest thing about it is not only the number of lives lost or the ages of the kids. This is VERY sad and should NEVER happen. The fact, however that this will pass, like right now we pray for them each night (I do) and we even have cards and stuff talk about gun control, but within a month people will move on. Maybe six months, but I can PROMISE you that the emotions will get less and it will go away. The part of the rest of the country moving on may be just as sad as the event itself.

There's a Candle Memorial available for those who would like to say a prayer for the victims of this tragedy and light a memorial candle for their souls and the healing of their family and friends.

ESPN's headquarters is located about 30 miles from Newtown so it's not surprising that they would do so, but I still give them kudos for airing the bell ringing on at least 3 of their networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN News) while many other stations continued airing whatever was on.

Such a terrible tragedy! What a horrific loss. :(
Thankfully, these types of events are steadily decreasing (since 1929 when it peaked).

I lost my grandmother just before one Christmas...and there was no way to recoup the joy of the Savior's birthday that year.... may God bless their hearts and somehow give them the Peace of Christ to know their children are in the lap of God right now.

I will never be able to stop thinking about this for as long as I live.

It happened far too close to home. Nothing will be the same.

Some of us will wake up each morning to the memory of those faces and the images of horror. I will die with those images seared into my mind.

The only way to cope with something of this magnitude is to demonstrate absolute commitment to a cause. Anything less is insufficient.

I can promise you that there will be some who will not "move on" but will react in the form of a lifelong commitment to the community. It will not be many people but it will be a few.

Most of the world will forget but some will never forget. The temple of those children's innocence was destroyed on Friday but some people will become living shrines in their honor. They will not rest in their duty until their final hour on Earth.
