I've recently become a Raw Foodist...actually, I'm only about 99% raw. I still occasionally eat meat or eggs and/or still fry something. I guess I could also be called a Raw Vegetarian  not sure.

I started eating this way after observing a friend who is 10 years older than I but looks younger than I do and also has a LOT more energy than I do. The date I started was July 8, 2009 and as of this date Sept 4, 2009 I have lost 28 lbs.

Immediately, like the first night, I slept through the intire night without waking. I would usually awaken several times a night. I was alert throughout the whole next day...without the need of coffee. Then I began to notice that the swelling in my legs and feet had gone away. I could not sit for very long without them swelling and they would remain swelled. Now they don't swell at all. Then I noticed that the numbness in my feet began subsiding. A couple of weeks ago I realized that I had not felt depressed (which was frequent) nor had I had a headache or sinus problems in over a month...I would usually awaken every morning with a headache and sinus issues.

I started by purchasing the book "The Idiots Guide To Eating Raw" from Amazon...I bought it used and it's in very good condition. It gives all the info you need to get started. I also attended a 4-week class (once a week) that my friend gave on eating raw and she demonstrated how to make many of the meals. They were super easy to make and everything she made was delicious. All I had in my kitchen to start with was a blender and a little food chopper and I could do most everything with those items. I have since aquired a juicer (yard sale for $5) and a dehydrator (another item bought used via Amazon.com.)

This is the easiest food plan I have ever been on. I eat as much veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices as I want. I find that I do not eat as much as I use to because now my body is able to use what I'm putting into it. Before with all the "manmade" stuff in boxes and cans at the store are so full of things that are not natural to the body and it cannot use it and in fact is more than likely what is making so many people sick.

I've learned to make chashew cheese and fudge balls. The fudge balls are made out of walnuts, sunflower seeds, coconut flakes, honey, and carob and they are wonderful. I have been taking the with me on my long haul trips so that I'm not tempted to stop off and eat fast food because I get hungary. I make this wonderful broccoli soup too that has broccoli, cashew's, avacado, and spices in it. :yum: My friend even showed us how to make a chocolate pie and it really tasted like pie.

Anyway, I am just so excited at the changes I'm seeing in my own body since changing to this. I don't have to weigh anything or count calories, blah, blah, blah. Good recipes can also be found on line as well as demonstrations and little videos on You Tube. There is one called Super Size Me and another called Super Charge Me that are good eye openers. It's worth checking out.

I like boiled mash potato with the skin, flavoured with canola oil butter and sprinkled with dried herbs from those small glass bottles under $5 each. I do not sprinkle the dried herbs in foods such as mince beef and gravy while simmering in frypan, or in hot had-just-been-heated soup because I believe heat that remains high in temperature for a short while before becoming low can weaken the healing effectiveness of the herbs. Fruit is the only food I like raw, in frozen packages such as the berry variety, or in tin such as peaches preferably drained after opening it - altogether with icecream for dessert.

I have to completely agree with you, I have been a raw foodist for a few months now, and I will never go back! Its like losing weigh without exercise, glowing skin without trying, medical issues decreasing without the dr! And its not as bad a people think, I love it!

Eating Raw is very important, however, to eliminate all animal products, caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar, and tobacco products gradually or cold turkey if you want to improve your health or attempt to reverse any disease. The basic rule is that the more raw vegan foods you eat, the healthier you will become and the younger you will look and feel.

i am a low-fat raw vegan and doing it to let my body heal! my blog is on tashalee.org . i abused my body waaaay too much with exercise bulimia--bingeing on junk for many many years and overexercising to try to compensate...but exercise CAN'T make up for poor eating. anyway, i have seen a lot of health improvement so far but have a long way to go! :) glad there are other Christians into eating raw! :)

I'm about 75% raw right now, aiming for high raw by the end of summer. I'm also transitioning to vegan, which is super hard, because I love to bake (which almost always involves eggs). I've been gluten-free for over a month and have been cutting way back on refined sugars.

I love the energy I have when I eat raw, especially along the lines of 80-10-10. When I eat a lot of yummy fruits and leafy greens with fats sparingly (usually in the form of 1/2 an avocado or an ounce of raw almonds or pecans). The more I eat raw, the less I want to eat cooked. It just makes me feel so heavy and bloated.

I've had a lot of luck using Ener-G egg replacer for vegan baking. I still have a way to go to match the vegan chocolate cake I've had from whole foods.

I love the idea of this. I could really see myself going raw vegan for lent this upcoming year. However, it does seem a little complex to learn how to do (or maybe all the blogs I read just had the complicated stuff that busy folks just can't swing). I don't want to have to take a class or spend a fortune to learn how to do this.

Could anyone who eats raw give some simple recipes? What are your everyday 'go to' recipes that hit all the nutrition requirements your body needs?

ETA: Okay, I found a raw food diet shopping list. For me, the more simple, the better: http://www.thebestofrawfood.com/support-files/raw-food-diet-shopping-list.pdf

on my youtube channel "healthyskinnybeauty" i have a videos on my FAQ playlist of what i eat in a day (very simple--just plain fruit and simple greens combos) and some recipe videos of how i get my greens in. vitamins mostly in fruits and minerals mostly in leafy greens--covers the basics! foodnsport dot com has a book called "the 80-10-10 diet" by doug graham- you could maybe find it cheap on amazon, that explains how plain, simple is best and covers what we need. i also supplement per "avoiding degenerative disease" by don bennett. 5 bananas, peel and eat, is cheap and easy! the complex raw vegan meals are not health-enhancing--they are helpful for transitioning but simple is better, and many of the complex meals are high-fat too, which leads to health problems.....low-fat, simple raw fruits and veggies, mono meals or duo-meals...feels so great in the body and is easy to eat and no cleanup except throwing the peels in the compost. :)
