I saw a documentary on the Phelps family, founders of a fundamentalist church, you can google them to find out more, anyone got any opinions on this group?

For God so loved the world (except gays) that he gave his only begotten Son so that whosoever believeth in him (except gays) should not perish but have everlasting life (except gays, who burn in hell for eternity).

Spot which parts of the above don't actually appear in the Bible.

They are an interesting family with an interesting past...at the end of the day though they are just a bunch of publicity harlots. Although I have long been curious how they manage to fund all their various trips, meh...
Good observations, Eternally. And of course, their drive for attention has paid off wonderfully as people like us talk about them and talk about them and talk about them. When will it occur to us that they aren't significant enough to warrant such notice?

from what I saw anyone who was not in their cult. they all seemed to miss John 3:17

Joh 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world (just to condemn gays), but that the world (except gays) through Him might be saved.

Would that be the verse?

Why do you keep adding the "except for gays" part, this is a fundamentalist christian sub forum. Kind of annoying.

To show how unbiblical this notion that "God Hates [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]" really is. Unless you believe Jesus only died for some sinners then it's silly to say God only loves some of us.

Presumably even in Fundamentalist Christians people still believe that any sinner may get on their knees and repent, no?

Edit: filter won't let be write what's on their slogans, for those who don't know it's also used as slang for cigarettes and looks rather like the word figs.

(I'm not a fundamentalist, I just wandered into this sub forum after seeing this thread.)

I find the Phelps family endlessly interesting. As a gay person who has made a comittment of celibacy to God, and who believes gay people should make their own choices, I find it interesting that these people are so quick to damn us. I have the spirit of Christ inside me. I receive His body and blood every week. I know that God loves me.

I feel bad for the Phelps family. What will Christ say to them when they meet face-to-face? They need prayer.

I believe some of the older children came out of the family and gave their hearts to Christ. Which goes to show Christ will achieve his purpose and good pleasure despite the circumstances.

thats good to hear, can't see them being invited back to share the good news with the rest of their church though.

I can answer that. A lot of the family are lawyers, so whenever someone ever so slightly infringes on their rights, technically, they sue for huge damages and often win. They may be horrible, but they do know how to milk the legal system for all the money they can get.
