K, Ill come clean. We, the Canadians, were behind Obama's (re-)election. We seek to spread marijuana use across your states, along with turning all your little Jim's and Johnny's gay through mass hypnosis spread by the many gyrations of our finely toned gay men on floats.

Our main weapon, meant to further our causes of socialism and the institutionalization of Christian death camps via our allies the ACULU, has been specially prepared to run on Republican tears.

So dear Republicans, continue your impotent crying. You only further our dasterdyly cause. Soon, you shall be gay, high, and on welfare, and there's nothing you can do about it. Muahahaha.

~Love, the Canadians

PS. We are also renaming you all Juan and forcing y'all to pledge allegiance to Allah. You know, just 'cause that'd amuse us.

Okay, guys? It's been what? Two full days since Obama was re-elected? We still have health insurance. I made spaghetti for dinner, and it was delicious. My son told me a funny joke. The organic produce co-op I belong to delivered my bi-weekly package and this time I got some persimmons and grapes. Score! Tomorrow, I'm going to my church to have my picture taken for the church directory. This coming Sunday I will get to go to church and worship with fellow believers, some of whom voted for Obama and nobody makes them feel bad about it.

Blood hasn't rained from the sky yet and we're all still here, so I figure we're really not in that bad of shape.
So your a moderate, not really a conservative. The damage will be long term not short term so stop being condescending. Freedom's will be taken away and already are through obamacare, he is trying to force Catholic Hospitals to pay for and do abortions, contraceptives which is a violation of the Constitution.

The rules against flaming still apply though, you need to watch your mouth.
I don't think it counts as flaming if the insult is aimed at a group of people instead of an individual unfortunately, at least that's how I understood the flaming rule the last time I read it.

There are no lawsuits "force{ing} Catholic Hospitals to pay for and perform abortions". That is a lie.

He's talking about catholic organizations bringing lawsuits against the HSS mandate.

I've bolded the important part.

Nope, of course as an atheist none less can be expected out of you.

He's talking about catholic organizations bringing lawsuits against the HSS mandate.

I know, and admittedly I'm being a pedant by discerning between that aspect and his claim that "{the President} is trying to force Catholic hospitals to pay for and perform abortions" , but that's sort of what I do around here.

A LITTLE LIGHT HUMOUR! :)
[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]
[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif] [FONT=times new roman, new york, times, serif] [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
A MESSAGE FROM THE QUEEN

qeii.jpg
To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
In light of your failure in recent years to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. (You should look up ‘revocation’ in the Oxford English Dictionary.)
Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories.
Your new Prime Minister, David Cameron, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further marathonic elections.
In keeping with the public´s respect for those institutions, Congress and the Senate will be disbanded fortwith. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.
To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules shall be introduced with immediate effect:

1. The letter ‘U’ will be reinstated in words such as ‘colour,’ ‘favour,’ ‘labour’ and ‘neighbour.’ Likewise, you will learn to spell ‘doughnut’ without skipping half the letters, and the suffix ‘-ize’ will be replaced by the suffix ‘-ise.’ Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up ‘vocabulary’).
————————
2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ”like’ and ‘you know’ is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S. English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter ‘u” and the elimination of ‘-ize.’
——————-
3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.
—————–
4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you’re not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can’t sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you’re not ready to shoot grouse.
———————-
5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.
———————-
6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.
——————–
7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it.
——————-
8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.
——————-
9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth – see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat’s Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.
———————
10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie Macdowell attempt English dialect in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one’s ears removed with a cheese grater.
———————
11. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).
———————
12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the South Africans first to take the sting out of their deliveries.
——————–
13.. You must tell us who killed JFK. It’s been driving us mad.
—————–
14. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty’s Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776).
—————
15. Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season.
God Save the Queen!

What does it mean for the county? Pretty much the same thing a Romney presidency would mean.
I beg to differ; Romney's policies as far as foreign affairs is concerned is very much like the Reagan/Bush Gun boat diplomacy. Obama has shown that diplomacy can be more effective in most cases without military threats. As for domestic policies? Obama wants national health care while Romney wants only private health care and this alone makes for a very big difference! Both however are capitalists and their economic policies are similar.

They have been aggressive, hostile for months on end, making disparaging comments about liberals, and telling lies about the Obama administration (there is plenty of room for legitimate criticism of the Obama administration, but when people perpetuate falsehoods, especially after being corrected about them, i have no sympathy for them).

I'm not advocating being mean to people, nor have i been posting anything of that sort myself. Nor do i advocate giving these people special treatment, as they've been vicious to those who don't share their political opinion for a very long time.

If you'd prefer a maxim, pick from one below:

"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"
"What's good for the goose is good for the gander"
"If you can't take the heat, stay out of the fire"

The sun also shines, just a little, in North Korea. Which is where you're heading ;)

People here talk about different versions of freedom than the one posited by traditional American values.
North Korea is yet another one of those examples of a different kind of freedom.

I imagine that even days, weeks and months after the DMZ line went through Korea, the North Koreans were living pretty much as they had been, enjoying the sun, going to church, tickling their childrens feet, and otherwise being the same humans that they always were.

The sun rising today is not much of an argument of what this election means for America.
Maybe the acceptance of trillion dollar deficits as the new norm for America is not consequential. I can only point out, as people continue to live their lives as before, that like a DMZ zone going up, there is every chance it is not a piddling little thing either.

my household income puts us in the top 5-10% of income, and i supported Obama over Romney as the lesser of two evils. I didn't get to vote due to extenuating circumstances from Sandy (haven't had power since last Monday (11 days and counting!), and have been staying out of state for a while. From my facebook friends, those who are educated and have good jobs (including several small business owners) almost all voted for Obama. It's my non-college educated facebook friends that are shedding tears for Obama's re-election.

I see the right-wing meme of "people voted to get free stuff" and "those demanding things from others now outnumber those who work" - both of which are outright lies.

I supported Obama over Romney for his position on social issues. I supported Obama over Romney for his handling of foreign policy (although i am critical of Obama for increased use of drone strikes and continued militarism). I supported Obama because Romney's vision of the economy is more of what brought about the economic collapse of 2008.

Republicans lost because they put forth a wishy-washy candidate who's only economic solution involves garnishing wealth from those who actually add value to the economy, and putting even more of it into the hands of the wealthy. It is of no surprise that they again try to vilify their political opponents.

"When young people are taken away from their home milieu, in late adolescence, crowded together in age groups, with diminished parental, and indeed, adult influence, and without the social disciplines which the need to earn a living impose, is it surprising that their late-adolescent rebelliousness should feed on itself, and seek ideological rationalisations? Left-wing ideology is so convenient for this purpose; it requires little knowledge and less analytical thought, just a compendium of all-purpose phraseology .

No doubt many will grow out of it when the leave for the world, [sic] but not all. Some will carry on an extended adolescence as teachers in schools and in polytechnics and in universities, helped by the like-minded, where they will co-operate with the left-wing gangs. But worse still is the effect of these winds of change in the schools, particularly in poorer districts among less gifted children, and in social work.

Some abuse their power and authority to urge or condone antisocial behaviour either on political grounds - against an ‘unjust society’, against ‘authority’ or as ‘liberation from the trammels of the outmoded family’. But what has been the result? Drugs, drunkenness, teenage pregnancies, vandalism, an increase in drifting - now called by new names, but basically vagrancy. None of these phenomena is at all modern, or liberated; they are the very opposite of freedom which begins with self-discipline.

The facile rhetoric of absolute liberty has become a cover for irresponsibility; instant social protest an excuse for antisocial behaviour. The old virtues of patriotism and national pride have been denigrated in the name of internationalism, love of all our fellow-men. But no one can love mankind if he does not love his own countrymen.

It was the radical Socialist writer and patriot, the late George Orwell , who described the left-wing intellectuals as men motivated primarily by hatred of their own country. Socialists who spoke most about brotherhood of man [sic] could not bear their fellow-Englishmen, he complained. Their well-orchestrated sneers from their strongpoint in the educational system and media have weakened the national will to transmit to future generations those values, standards and aspirations which made England admired the world over.

It is just because their message is that self-discipline is out of date and that the poor cannot be expected to help themselves, that they want the state to do more. That is why they believe in state ownership and control of economic life, education, health. Their wish to end parental choice in where and how their children shall be educated, in spending their money on better education and health for their children instead of on a new car, leisure, pleasure, is all part of the attempt to diminish self and self-discipline and real freedoms in favour of the state, ruled by socialists, the new class, as one disillusioned communist leader called them.

Of course, I shall be misrepresented, but let me ward off what misunderstanding I can. I am not saying that we should not help the poor, far from it. But the only really lasting help we can give to the poor is helping them to help themselves; to do the opposite, to create more dependence is to destroy them morally while throwing an unfair burden on society. The populist rulers of Rome thought they had hit on a foolproof method of achieving a permanent curb on their patrician rivals when they created a dependent proletariat relying on them for bread and circuses; but in the end it destroyed the political stability of Rome, and so Rome itself fell, destroyed from inside.

Are we to be destroyed from inside, too, a country which successfully repelled and destroyed Philip of Spain , Napoleon , [Kaiser Wilhelm II ] the Kaiser, Hitler , are we to be destroyed by ideas, mischievous, wrong-headed, debilitating, yet seductive because they are fashionable and promise so much on the cheap?

It is up to us. History is not made by abstract forces, or classes. It is made by people. If we have the moral courage to say what we believe to be true, right and good, the people will be with us. "

This article has significant issues, starting right in the first paragraph:

Left-wing ideology is so convenient for this purpose; it requires little knowledge and less analytical thought, just a compendium of all-purpose phraseology .

For starters, Sir Keith Joseph said left-wing when he was clearly referring to right-wing.
