Boeing's competitors for government contracts are home-grown.

All defense contracts should be strictly homegrown; the economy would boom and tax revenues would soar. Sad that no one in Washington understands this.

You are right. It is sad to see so many defense contracting dollars flowing to overseas competitors.

In good faith we send them to Washington where they sell us to the lowest bidder in the global marketplace.

What defense program is being made overseas? I know when Airbus had John McCain in their back pocket they got the bid on the airtankers, but that was reversed.

What programs are you guys refering too?

If this was just Boeing, it would be one thing. The fact is, at least 45 companies have announced layoffs since the election results were announced. Now, some of these we knew were coming -- just Obama arranged for layoffs at defense contracts to be announced after the election so that it wouldn't hurt his chances at being reelected.

OTOH, this is a serious hit to an already weak economy, not to mention it isn't the "Christmas Bonus" most of these workers wanted.

Just imagine what happens if the fiscal cliff arrives. Wait until Obamacare comes into effect, and many full time workers are replaced with part time workers.

Not referring to whole defense programs but subcontracting for component parts which are made overseas and shipped here for assembly. China makes many of these components for our defense infrastructure. Not good.

I work in the aircraft industry and I am kind of familiar with it. I think what you guys are talking about is private prime contractors subcontracting out the county for mainly electronics.

How does your government spending billions on aircraft reduce the deficit?

Taxation at all levels of domestic economic activity. It doesn't matter what is being produced or by whom as long it remains here at home. As it is $5-600Billion leaves the U.S. economy every year. Bring it home (or keep it here) where it can circulate and be taxed and voila, economic problems solved.

We owe nothing to our parasitic trading 'partners' in the global economy.

Do you agree that this isn't good either from an economic or national security viewpoint? Death 'by a thousand cuts' is still death.

No, I can't say that I do. But I guess the "free market" crowd would crow at "new regulations" that limited "economic freedom."

The government is aware of this problem.
