Mormons also believe that God once lived on a planet and becoming a God and ruling over his own worlds which he creates is the goal of every devout Mormon male.
Good grief. I know exactly what Mormons believe. For 14 years, every six months, I've been having to greet 2 Mormon elders who were interested in sharing what they believe with us. Once there were three, and another time the Mormon sisters visited. (There's a LDS meeting house less than a mile from us.) I only remember once getting into an actual debate because normally they are very repectful and even offer to help in any way (and the offer is sincere too.)
Since we live in the "Mormon belt" (a play on the "Bible belt" of this country) my church has even invited LDS to come over and explain their beliefs to our CCD (Christian Confraternity of Doctrine) students. Our church includes the LDS as "Christians" on a banner listing the various Christian religions. The term they use is "psuedo-Christians", but the LDS nowadays call themselves Christian. And according to the simplest definition of "follower of Jesus Christ, who is God's son and is our Lord and Redeemer" they qualify because they believe all that and one of their books of scripture is the KJV of the Bible. (In fact the Book of Mormon is very much like the KJV in its language.)
And if you ever read the LDS Articles of Faith, I bet you would really be surprised because it sounds very much like what Paul exhorted us to do--concentrate on whatever is good. The LDS Articles of Faith also exhorts the LDS to respect and obey the laws of the land. It also exhorts them to grant religious liberty to folks. IMO, we should do as well.
I'll see if I can find them for you.
BTW do you know that the LDS stress being prepared, and are one of the many largest religious charity organizations--Catholic Charities, Samaritan's Purse, Operation Blessing, Salvation Army as well as others? About five years ago, we had a severe flood (covered a freeway--so it cut off a way to get supplies, many towns, many deaths). The LDS provided barrels of clean drinking water to towns effected around here. And each LDS is expected to have at least a year's supply of food on hand. Plus they are to extend this help to neighbors and those in need. (Heck I even have a list of emergency preparations from them and I am not LDS and they are well aware that I am quite happy being Catholic.)
Also, what kind of making fun of has Obama done?
How on earth did you miss Obama's snide remark (as if it was wrong) that the Christians in Pennsylvania "cling to their God and guns"? Wondering how you missed that youtube someone posted of Obama sneeringly making fun of the Bible as if it was out-of-touch. Something about which part of the Bible we want to believe? The part on stoning or some equally out-of-context suggestion.
