In Daniel 11, especially verses 40-45, and continuing [as there is no break] in Daniel 12:1-3, there have been many guesses as to who the King of the South is there. Some have said it is the literal country of 'Egypt' [and thus some ruling power there], and others yet say it is literally 'China' [and some ruling power there], and some others still posit that the King of the South is literally the 'Saracens/Arabs/Muslims/Islamists under Mahomet [Mohammed], for some future Islamic leader [12th Mahdi]'. All of these are false. Let us see...
We know from scripture that Daniel 11 and Daniel 8 parallel to a given point, for since in Daniel 8 a vision is given, and a partial audible explanation, and then Daniel 11 begins again where Daniel 8 also began [in the realm of the [2nd] kingdom of Medo-Persia, continuing onward], and so it re-explains the vision of Daniel 8 yet in further detail, but where as Daniel 8 only reaches [basically, though Daniel 8:25 leaps to the very conclusion, "he shall be broken without hand"] to a certain year AD [AD 1844, the end of the 2,300 evening mornings thus day/years], Daniel 11 audible explanation continues past the point where Daniel 8 stops short, and goes until the righteous are made immortal at the 2nd advent of Jesus Christ
We know from scripture that Daniel 11 must perfectly fit all of the already known forces from Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and in all of the previous Daniel 1-10 [and surrounding chapter 12 and even other prophets ].
We know from scripture that Daniel 11 must also find its parallels in Revelation as well, since the last certain portions of Daniel were sealed, and only to be revealed in the Revelation, and could only be rightly understood after a specific given timeframe, as so given in the Book of Daniel itself, being also restated in Revelation [given 7 times in scripture, [1,260 days, 42 months, and Times, Time and Dividing of Time]].
In Daniel 11:40[a], we read:
"And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him..."
Thus:
"And at the time of the end..." is stating at the end of the 1,260 years, thus the year AD 1798 comes into view, as it is the ending, while AD 538 is the beginning. We could also calculate from the year AD 508, and the 1,290 years [Daniel 12:11], ending in the same year, AD 1798.
The perfect parallel in Revelation makes this abundantly clear, especially as the "...scriptures cannot be broken." [John 10:35;p], and so see and compare Daniel 7:25, 12:7; Revelation 11:2,3, 12:6,14, 13:5 [and consider also Luke 21:24;p "...trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." and Revelation 11:2;p "...given unto the Gentiles..."].
In the light of those texts, and the very context and placement within Revelation itself, we are speaking about the timeframe of the latter part of the 6th Trumpet Angel and the 2nd Woe. Notice Revelation 11:1-14.
Thus "...time of the end..." of Daniel 11:40[a] is fixed, first by The Scripture and second by the SoP:
“The message of salvation has been preached in all ages; but this message is a part of the gospel which could be proclaimed only in the last days, for only then would it be true that the hour of judgment had come. The prophecies present a succession of events leading down to the opening of the judgment. This is especially true of the book of Daniel. But that part of his prophecy which related to the last days, Daniel was bidden to close up and seal “to the time of the end.” Not till we reach this time could a message concerning the judgment be proclaimed, based on the fulfillment of these prophecies. But at the time of the end, says the prophet, “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4.
The apostle Paul warned the church not to look for the coming of Christ in his day. “That day shall not come,” he says, “except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Not till after the great apostasy, and the long period of the reign of the “man of sin,” can we look for the advent of our Lord. The “man of sin,” which is also styled “the mystery of iniquity,” “the son of perdition,” and “that wicked,” represents the papacy, which, as foretold in prophecy, was to maintain its supremacy for 1260 years. This period ended in 1798. The coming of Christ could not take place before that time. Paul covers with his caution the whole of the Christian dispensation down to the year 1798. It is this side of that time that the message of Christ’s second coming is to be proclaimed.
No such message has ever been given in past ages. Paul, as we have seen, did not preach it; he pointed his brethren into the then far-distant future for the coming of the Lord. The Reformers did not proclaim it. Martin Luther placed the judgment about three hundred years in the future from his day. But since 1798 the book of Daniel has been unsealed, knowledge of the prophecies has increased, and many have proclaimed the solemn message of the judgment near.” - The Great Controversy; page 356
Then "...shall the King of the South..." is stating as it has before, the 'King of Egypt', since "Egypt" is always south of "Jerusalem" [just as "Babylon" was always to the north of Jerusalem]. But what is the King of Egypt [thus King of the South in this part of the text, Daniel 11:40[a]?]. We must go to scripture, for it shall define it for us...
Egypt is the Kingdom of the South, as it lay literally South of Jerusalem. Though in Daniel 11:40, which is far after the events of the Cross and the Ascension of Jesus, we are no longer looking for a 'literally south' of 'literal Jerusalem', but rather looking for a 'spiritually south' [and also 'spiritually north, a spiritual Babylon'] of 'spiritual Israel' enemies.
Satan always has two ditches on either side of the Truth. South is Egypt, and open Rebellion, open Denial and open Refusal to acknowledge God or Obey His Voice. While the North, is Mystery Babylon, which is cloaked and hidden denial, it is outwardly claiming to honor God in religion, but in actions and obedience and heart service it denies Him, thus it is hypocrisy. We ought to beware for more that just these powers in the world, but we must also apply them to our personal lives. Do we in instances openly deny God and say, "No" to God as Pharoah? Or do we sometimes cloak our denial behind a mask and facade of outward lip service, outward show and inward denial of heart as does Mystery Babylon? Please think on these things, and let us continue...
Spiritually it [South] represents open hostility and rebellion and rejection of worship towards God and open denial of his Commandments, especially the 4th Commandment [the 7th Day Sabbath], thus openly, rebelliously and high handedly denying God:
Exo 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
see also: “Lest I be full, and deny [thee], and say, Who [is] the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God [in vain].” - Proverbs 30:9
Exo 5:3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
Exo 5:4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let [cause to cease] the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
Exo 5:5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest [shabath] from their burdens.
Exo 5:6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
Exo 5:7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
Exo 5:8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
Exo 5:9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
Exo 5:10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
Exo 5:11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.
Exo 5:12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
Exo 5:13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
Exo 5:14 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
