Sounds like a traditional conservative view.
Exactly. The OP is trying to make it sound as if he said that you are not entitled to your success rather than what he actually said, which was that you are not entitled to success. I've heard right-wingers say that over and over, but now that Obama has said the same thing, it must be disavowed.

I guess you made the mistake of thinking I cared about what you think. *shrugs
I have no care in the world what you think about me, I just had to break my vow of ignoring you to ask. Now I'll go right back to knowing you got nothing.

I think that ignoring OCC will be like when the show Taxi wrote Tony out when Jeff Conaway was in drug rehab. They discovered that his absense had no affect on the show.

I was going to stay out of this.......oh well.

There is no fair shot or fair share. In fact life is not fair by any possible measure of it.

This whole idea sounds like "to each according to his needs, to each according to his abilities".
That's in no way is a conservative idea.

The idea of fair is an idealistic one, it's foolish, it's imposible and it will not work. It is the person that overcomes all the unfair of this life that shows us the right way to think. The idea that we should all start out on the same starting line, that we somehow manage to create that pie in the sky foolish idealistic world is a defeated line of thought; the basic idea goes against to design of man. We are made to climb over stuff. We are at our best when reality faces us head on.

Most conservatives understand this stuff very well. The first rung of the economic ladder needs to be raised up, not lowered; because the next step will not be a given to you.

My 2 cents and out, I hope

I have NEVER had children! Yet I have paid school taxes for 45 years. Is this fair??? NO, it is not!
Why not? Do you not see any benefits in living in a community in which the children are educated and have the opportunity to grow successful and contribute?

I have kids, and they are in private school. That being said, I glady support the public schools as well with my tax dollars. I see benefits in a strong public school system all around me.

How do you get from "We believe in a country where hard work pays off and responsibilities are rewarded and everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody's doing their fair share. And everybody's playing by the same rules." to "to each according to his needs, to each according to his abilities"? The fact that he said "hard work pays off" is completely counter to the idea of "to each according to his needs, to each according to his abilities".

I'm reminded of the South Park episode with the underpants gnomes.

Step 1: Collect underpants
Step 2: ----
Step 3: Profit

You do? Well then you disagree with the platform of the Democratic party then.
Democrats beleive that the rules should apply to all equally. Republicans defend the creation of special rules what apply to a few.

Some comments to the above OP: ^_^

Then Obama, you are NOT entitled to a SECOND TERM.

Can you say “President-elect Mitt Romney?”

“...and everybody’s doing their fair share.”
His base isn’t going to like that one.

I think what he meant is that if you ARE successful, you are not entitled to keep the fruits of that labor, you gotta share.

everybody's paying by the same rules

yet every moocher is entitled an Obama Phone.

How very "Marxist" of Obama to say these things, loudly and clearly now....

"Our economy does not grow from the top-down, it grows from the middle-out.” I've been growing from the middle out for years. :o)

It's a Reaganphone !

Since when are the working poor "moochers" ?

I'll stay with Christ on taxation, too ...
