In a previous thread, Distortions in the Clear Word Bible-Old Testament, I pointed out that Jack Blanco, a Seventh Day Adventist theologian, inserted his own views into the Old Testament, and flatly reversed the meaning of some verses in his paraphrase.

The liberties which Blanco takes with the New Testament are, if anything, much greater. Part of the problem is that the Seventh Day Adventist Church denies the existence of a permanent hell. Adventist theology says that at the Final Judgment the wicked will be consumed by fire but they will not continue to suffer. The Adventists have not back pedaled this belief. It is one of the first things they say to anyone and one of the key doctrines they teach to children.

The Parables of Christ, which contain the core of His teaching, do refer to a permanent hell. Blanco seems to be at war with the Parables in the Book of Matthew.

Matthew 8:11-12 NIV

11[bless and do not curse]“I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12[bless and do not curse]But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 8: 11-12 Clear Word
11 “He is living proof that people everywhere can be spiritual sons and daughters of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and be in God's kingdom. But those who think their blood connection with Abraham makes them heirs of the kingdom will be left in darkness and bitterly weep in despair.”

Matthew 22:13 NIV

13[bless and do not curse]“Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 22:13 Clear Word

13 “So the king said to his servants, 'Take this man and show him the door!'” The utter remorse and weeping of this man was unfathomable.

Jack Blanco's battle with the Parables in the Book of Matthew continues.

Matthew 24:50-51 NIV

50[bless and do not curse]“The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51[bless and do not curse]He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 24:50-51 Clear Word

50 “But his master came back unexpectedly and surprised him. 51 He relieved him of all his responsibilities and publicly stated why his servant had been dismissed. The servant's remorse was beyond words.”

Matthew 25: 30 NIV Parable of the Talents

30[bless and do not curse]“'And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”

Matthew 25:30 Clear Word

30 “'Throw that worthless manager outside, where he will weep and gnash his teeth over what he did to lose his job.'”

In the following verse, Blanco even manages to leave out the Bible's positive statement that the righteous will receive "eternal life."

Matthew 25: 46 NIV Parable of the Sheep and Goats

46[bless and do not curse]“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Matthew 25:46 Clear Word

46 “'I have no choice but to end your lives, because in my kingdom everyone cares about everyone else.'”

In the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, Jack Blanco commits what may be his greatest lie. Blanco denies that this is a parable composed by Christ, instead saying that it is a story told by Pharisees which Jesus repeats for reasons that aren't completely clear. In Blanco's version, Jesus repeatedly describes the Parable as “your story,” meaning a story told by scribes and Pharisees.

Blanco's reasons are obvious. Anyone who admits that the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus is God's truth must realize that the Seventh Day Adventist view of the afterlife is wrong.

The SDA's problem with the Parable in Luke is twofold. The Adventists say that there is no permanent hell, and they also deny that there is a soul that goes to heaven, prior to the resurrection at the Final Judgment.

Luke 16: 19-31 NIV Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

19[bless and do not curse]“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20[bless and do not curse]At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21[bless and do not curse]and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22[bless and do not curse]“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23[bless and do not curse] In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24[bless and do not curse]So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25[bless and do not curse]“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26[bless and do not curse]And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27[bless and do not curse]“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28[bless and do not curse]for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29[bless and do not curse]“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30[bless and do not curse]“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31[bless and do not curse]“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Luke 16: 19-31 Clear Word

19 Then He said to the Pharisees, “You keep telling people the story you put together about a rich man who dressed in fine clothes and lived luxuriously. 20 In your story, there is also a poor man called Lazarus who had open sores all over his body. Every day he sat outside the rich man's gate begging. 21 He was so hungry that he wished he could have some of the scraps that the rich man fed his dogs. In fact, these same dogs would go down to the gate and lick the poor man's sores. 22 As you tell it, the day came when the poor man died and was carried by angels into glory to sit beside Abraham. Soon afterward, the rich man also died and eh, too, was buried. 23 Then he looked up out of hell where he was being tormented and saw Lazarus sitting in glory next to Abraham! 24 So he cried out, Father Abraham! Have mercy on me! Please send Lazarus down here so he can dip his finger in some water to cool my tongue, because the fires here are terrible!'

25 “But Abraham said, 'Son, remember how you treated Lazarus when you were both still on earth? Son, remember how you treated Lazarus when you were both still on earth? Remember what a luxurious life you lived while he suffered and didn't have enough to eat? Now things are reversed. He's in glory sitting next to me while you're the one who's suffering down there in hell. 26 Besides, there's a great distance between heaven and hell, so no one from here can go down there nor can anyone from there come up here. 27 Then, according to your story, the rich man said, 'I beg you, Father Abraham, if no one can come down here to help me, then please send Lazarus to my father's house. 28 Someone needs to talk to my five brothers so they won't do the same thing I did and end up suffering in this tortuous place like I am.' 29 Abraham said, 'Moses and the prophets are very clear as to what your brothers should do.' 30 The rich man said, 'They don't listen to what is written. But if someone who died would go to them, I know they would listen to him and repent and give to the poor.' 31 Then your story ends by Abraham saying, 'If your brothers are not willing to listen to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen to anyone, even if he rose from the dead.' So you see, you yourselves teach people that they should listen to the Scriptures and that what they do in this life will affect them in the next one.”

Even the Crucifixion isn't too holy to be reworded in accord with Adventist theology.

The Crucifixion

Luke 23:39-43 NIV

39[bless and do not curse]One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40[bless and do not curse]But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41[bless and do not curse]We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42[bless and do not curse]Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43[bless and do not curse]Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Luke 23:39-43 Clear Word

39 One of the traitors hanging on the cross also started mocking Jesus, saying, “If you're the Messiah as you say you are, why don't you save yourself and us!” But the other traitor tried to silence him saying, “Don't you have any fear of God in your soul? In a few hours, you and I will be dead. We're getting what we deserve, but this Man is being executed even though He's innocent! Didn't you hear what the soldiers said about the whole trial and how Pilate found no fault in him?” Then he turned to Jesus and said, “Lord, I believe in you! Please, remember me when you set up your kingdom.” Jesus turned his head toward him and said, “I promise you today, when I return with the glory of my Father, I will take you home with me to paradise.”

Hey Dale, what does Blanco say about Ezekiel 28? I once briefly listened to a SDA Michigan Church Pastor preach a sermon on Ezekiel 28 and it turned my stomach sour. He was saying that God will need our loving support on the day that He must destroy satan. He claimed that God will be most distraught for that one reason alone, above all else.

I can't see God batting an eyelash when it comes to destroying the filthy scum that crucified His Son and plundered His Temple, martyred His Saints, caused every form of filth that any man has witnessed, etc.

Let that Church stand in favor of satan on that day, while others are rejoicing over the serpents death.

I looked at Ezekiel 28. As usual, Blanco inserts his own interpretation. There isn't anything in his version about God needing our support.

The following passage in Corinthians asserts that Galatians and the Corinthians contribute money to the church on “the first day of every week,” which is obviously Sunday. This is one of the passages that tells us that first century Christians were already worshipping on Sunday. Sunday worship was not a late innovation, as the SDA claim.

Blanco inserts the words “sit down at home,” changing the meaning of the passage. He makes the counting out of money for the church an event which occurs in the homes of Christians, where he assumes that they will be on “the first day of every week,” Sunday. For Blanco's version to make sense, we must conclude that the Bible orders us to count out the money we have to donate to the church on Sunday, then wait six days before giving it to the church on Saturday. Needless to say, I know of no one who does this.

1 Corinthians 16: 1-2 NIV

1 Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. 2[bless and do not curse]On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Clear Word
1 Let's now talk about the immediate needs of the saints. I've been collecting funds from all the churches in the province of Galatia to take to the poor in Jerusalem. I would also like you to contribute to this fund. On the first day of every week, sit down at home and figure out how much you can give, depending, of course, on how God has prospered you.

In Revelation 1:10, it is obvious to me that “the Lord's Day” is Sunday, the day of the week that Christ rose from the dead, and schlars agree. Jack Blanco assumes that the “the Lord's Day” is Saturday, the traditional Jewish Sabbath.

Revelation 1:10 NIV
10[bless and do not curse]On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11[bless and do not curse]which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”

Revelation 1:10 Clear Word
10 On the Sabbath of the Lord I went to the island's rocky shore to worship. Suddenly the Spirit took control of me, and I heard a voice behind me that sounded as loud as a trumpet. The voice said, “Write a book about what I'm going to show you and send it to the seven churches in Asia Minor in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

Revelation Chapter 11 opens with the Two Witnesses. Blanco uses the heading of “The Bible Rejected” for verses 7-10 and “The Bible Resurrected” for verses 11-14.

Where the NIV says they are dead for three and a half days, Blanco inserts the interpretation that the days are years.

Revelation 11: 9-11 NIV

9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. 10 The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth. 11 But after the three and a half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them.

Revelation 11: 9-11 Clear Word
9 As for the two people who lay in the streets, people from different races, languages and nationalities laughed at them and would not even give them an honorable burial. This lasted for about three-and-a-half prophetic days (or three-and-a-half years). When the three-and-a-half years were over, the Holy Spirit came and breathed life into the two witnesses. They stood up, and those who saw this were filled with fear.

In Revelation 12, Blanco inserts the interpretaton that the woman who stands on the moon represents God's people. He also inserts the interpretation that Satan used Rome to kill Christ “as soon as he was born.” The facts are getting twisted here. It was Herod who tried to kill Jesus as soon as he was born, not Rome. According to the Gospels, the Roman Governor consented to the Cruxifixion but did not instigate it.

Blanco's mention of Rome is certainly not accidental, considering the SDA's blistering criticism of the Roman Catholic Church.

Later he inserts the interpretation that the 1,260 days are years, in accord with Adventist theology.

Revelation 12: 4-6 NIV

4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.
101 words

Revelation 12:4-6 Clear Word
4 I saw him use his powerful tail to pull down one-third of the stars from heaven. The dragon, I was told, represented Satan and the stars were the angels he had pulled down from heaven with him. I saw him stand in front of the woman, waiting for her to give birth so he could work through Rome to kill her Child as soon as He was born. She gave birth to a Son who would judge and rule the world. The Child was snatched away from the dragaon, and later ascended to God and to His throne. I saw the woman (representing God's people) run from the dragon into the wilderness to a place he had prepared for her where she was taken care of for one thousand, two hundred and sixty prophetic days, each day representing a year.

I can't agree with you any less, this is so true. I thought that I was the only one who noticed this. They do it to hide their own guilt about their blasphemies. The accuser of the brethren, day and night, they don't sleep, or do they? Yea, on their Sabbath rest of the flesh.

I'd say if the adventist version of the Bible contains errors then I would suggest you don't read it. I've known a number of Adventists and they use the KJV.
Of course they use the KJV, it's also known as the Protestant Bible, why? because their prophetess is responsible for spiritually ripping pages out of the Bible. The 66 canon Protestant Bible mixed with philosophy and printed false doctrines does place the MOB 666 in the minds of unsuspecting people.

God's Seal is 777 and requires 77 canons mixed with Truth to form 777 in the conscience so that we may become joint heirs in Glory, which is 7, Seventh Heaven.

Additionally, I find SDA's quoting E.G.W. writings for the most, hardly a word from the Bible. I used to be one, I ought to know what they are! Before my departing from that church, I asked all of my SDA friends to study the KJV alone without any outside influence, including E.G.W. writings and they all say that they don't care to study lies. Now, what does this say about the KJV Bible from their perspective?

You ought to know them better before defending them. lol

Revrobor,

The word “Adventist” does not appear on the front cover of The Clear Word Bible. It does not appear on the title page or in the Preface. The Preface compares it to The Living Bible and The Message. In the Preface, Blanco says “every attempt has been made to allow the Bible to interpret itself.”

This is a standard trick used by Adventists. They put their views out without giving anyone a clue where these thoughts come from or who is responsible for them.

There are two Adventist hospitals in the county where I live. In the lobby there are stacks of comic books pushing a Creationist view, denying the existence of the soul and denying the existence of a permanent hell. There is no sign that this is an Adventist publication.

I think more people should be aware of what the Adventists teach and why no one who knows their Bible can agree with them.

You only have to talk with Adventists on CF to know that no one can dispose of a Bible verse they don't want to hear faster than an SDA. They only care what their prophet, Ellen White, thought.
