Hey everyone,

Just thought I would share an experience that I had at confession today that was unusual for me. Usually, I don't feel anything when I go to Confession, and I recite the standard Act of Contrition prayer. I know that there's nothing wrong with not feeling it since we walk by faith and not by sight or feeling. But today was different. I was really reflecting on my sins, and while in the Confession line the following words came to me to describe my sorrow for my sins:

Dear Lord,

My eyes, my ears, and my heart are infected with the leprosy of sin.

Christ Jesus, my Lord, if you will it, make me clean.

Amen

This was totally spontaneous, so I believe it was prompted by the Holy Spirit. While I was still waiting in line for Confession, I searched my pocket for a pen, and I wrote the words on the back of a piece of paper that I found in my wallet. This is a very small parish, and the Tabernacle is right in the center behind the Altar. I don't usually feel anything when looking at the Tabernacle of the Real Presence , but this time I felt a connection. It was like when you make eye contact with someone.

After my confession, I asked the priest if it would be okay to say these words of contrition that came to me while I was waiting in line. He gave me permission. After saying it, the priest told me that it was a good act of contrition from the heart.

When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people." - Matthew 8:1-4
