I'd like everyone to state, in one post (preferably), why you would vote for either Romney or Obama. Are you basing your vote on the candidate's economic policies, social views/programs, because the candidate is from one part or another, etc.? Not that this is a complete list of reasons. You may have other good reasons for how you would vote.

Just say why you would vote, in your own terms, for one candidate of the other.

If you are for another candidate, that is fine too. Just tell us who you are for, and briefly, why.

I'll refrain from my point of view at the moment.

I'm voting for Obama on the off chance that Romney might actually follow through with some of the stuff he is promising.

Otherwise, I don't see where it will make a bit of difference which guy wins.

Congress is a different story. The present congress is killing us.

Gary Johnson

The two parties are part of the exact same Totalitarian power structure.

Given that I live in a very red state I will be voting for Jill Stein. Were I in a swing state I would vote for Obama. While I am disappointed with the job Obama is doing, a Rmoney presidency would be much worse economically speaking. And on social issues the entire GOP platform and what they have drawn up local and state state level are evil, immoral stances.

Here's my rationale for voting for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan:

Obama’s record on the Economy
- 10% drop in median middle class income in 4 years under Obama
- Unemployment remains above 8% after 4 years under Obama
- Added $5T to US national debt in 4 years (more than any President in history)
- Record number of Americans living in poverty and on food stamps in 4 years under Obama

Obama’s Fiscal policies
- Proposed tax increase will cost 710,000 jobs per Ernst & Young
- Proposed hiring of government jobs adds to the debt and doesn’t address long term employment (jobs only last as long as taxpayer funding is provided)
- Unwilling or unable to negotiate with Republicans in Congress or in the Senate
- Fiscal cliff will happen if Obama is re-elected and will drive the US back into recession

Obama’s Social Policies
- Obama is pro-abortion, I am pro-life, though I would allow abortions in cases of rape, incest, and for the mother’s health.
- Obama demonstrated a willingness to infringe on rights of others such as Catholics with contraception
- Obamacare’s individual mandate and use of taxes to penalize workers must be repealed
- Obama will reveal a new gun control policy and infringe on our second Amendment rights

Obama’s Foreign Relations & Defense policies
- Middle Eastern relations have gotten worse. Witness the attacks on US embassies.
- Obama would weaken our military and significantly reduce or eliminate our nuclear weapons

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan aren't proven in the positions of President and VP of the United States (yet), but Obama is a proven failure, so in my opinion, it is time to give another team a try. Romney has successfully led as Governor, as head of the Olympics in Salt Lake Cith, and as CEO of a very successful private enterprise.

I wasted my vote years ago on Ross Perot, and until our political system is changed to give 3rd parties a chance, I won't waste my vote again.

Given that list why Romney over Gary Johnson or any of the other 3rd party candidates?

You asked why we support a candidate, yet you post a list of why you don't support one.

I am voting for Romney, for one reason: he's not Obama.

I'm not crazy about Romney, but I don't believe he's hellbent on destroying the country like Obama is.

Four years of Romney might give us a little breathing room to reform the system, but if we get four more years of Obama, that's the ballgame----the USA will cease to exist. You can stick a fork in this country, because we'll be done.

How about state your opionion instead of continuing to debate mine? You missed my revisions at the bottom, but regardless you are still attempting to debate.

I haven't decided who I'm voting for yet. I've been disappointed by Obama, but I still generally support him. Gary Johnson has some good ideas, but I'm not sure I'm commited to going 3rd party.

But it is interesting to see that the only two people on this thread so far that state they are voting for Romney haven't listed one reason why they are voting for him rather than voting against Obama.

I don't personally know a person who is voting for Mitt, only against Obama. This includes Republican family members, co workers, and friends.

This is why I think right-wing and libertarian 3rd party candidates will do well this election. It's also why I think Obama will win in a landslide.

I have very close friend who is a stauch Repubican. He was YAY Bush and YAY McCain, but he's meh Romney.

I understand why you might think that, and I'm not voting for either of the to party candidates, but I see that the anti-Obama people are motivated like crazy. Our local tea party really dislikes Romney, but they are busting their humps to get out the vote. One can listen to a lot of conservative talk radio and here very similar things, Mitt may be meh, but Obama has to go.

Obama, definitely (unless I decide to go Green Party).

  • Better tax policy.
  • Better understanding of foreign affairs.
  • Much better Vice President choice.
  • Better on healthcare.
  • More concerned about the middle class.
  • Supports unions.
  • Better on gay rights.
  • Better on social security and medicare.
  • Better on the social safety net.
  • Better on global warming.
  • Actually stands for something and says so.
  • etc.

I will be joining you in voting for Gov Johnson.

On the issue of hating the other guy being enough, I don't think it's going to work for the republicans this time around just like it did not work for the democrats in 04.

I see. No fact checkers allowed on this thread? Then I think I will throw my hat into the ring!

Vote for doubtingmerle.
  • A chicken in every pot!
  • An SUV in every garage!
  • A thousandfold increase in GNP!
  • Vast reserves of oil, gold, and other minerals will be found in our soil!
  • Huge increases in private investment in new factories in America!
  • All diseases will be eliminated!
  • All nations will love us, and give us gifts!
  • All terrorists will throw down their arms and sing our praises!
  • All politicians will get along with each other!
And remember, in this thread no fact checking is allowed.

I think my list of BS tops yours. !;)
