I agree with Dave, you don't need to do a lot of fretting (or even non-fretting preparations) to get ready for most internships in the church. Nor would it be particularly productive to do so. The goal is to learn by doing. And lots of work in the ministry just comes at us. Like today, I've been dealing with issues for one our conference affliliated nursing homes/retirement communities all summer. This week I've spent more time at it than in my own congregation. But I also had one of my members pass away this week and needed to be attending to that. So, it was this morning before I got around to even putting the bulletin together for this Sunday's service, which is a major emphasis Sunday locally as all of the churches in the community have been promoting it as "Back to Church" Sunday. And what do I find on my desk when I walk in, another funeral Saturday afternoon, after the one Saturday morning. I don't even know this family, but still there is a connection and so they have asked me. Lots of ministry is like that. You can't prepare for the events. You just prepare your heart to be in the right place so that God can use you when it's your turn at bat.
