Thanks, and congrats on the new job.

Speaking of "jobs", I discovered that a good chunk of my angst that I have gone through this summer and early fall was a waste of my emotional energy. I thought my internship was in the Fall of 2013 [at my pastor's request - due to some issues in my church] and I also thought that there was no place for me in my church in the role as a pastor which left me floundering. Well, I found out that my pastor and I had completely misunderstood each other. Turns out my internship was supposed to start in 3 WEEKS! He casually brought that up in conversation today which made me dig further. Turns out when he said "due to some issues here, can we wait til next year?" he meant next SCHOOL year not next calendar year...as in the fall of 2012 not 2013! He was having a difficult summer [due to those aforementioned church issues] and didn't realize how that sounded, and didn't think to touch base with me on this until now. And I was too upset to want to discuss this until yesterday [I was going to ask if we could do the internship earlier].And then after my internship is over, he plans on having me stay on "unpaid" staff so that I can get started on my required three years of assigned ministry that I need for ordination.

:doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:

Well, once I realized what he said I went into full panic mode and hyperventilated. I have done no mental prep or research and would only have one week to prepare because of those three weeks I will be in Hawaii. So we've moved the starting date to Nov 1st. Sigh, my word.....

And the feeling of being squelched or held back, I suspect is due to being all to aware of some of these "issues" that have troubled my pastor. Sometimes the gift of discernment I have will go into hyperdrive and overwhelm me. I say this because after he described some of his rotten summer, I realized that these were issues that seemed to be so very heavy on my mind. This happened a lot at my former church and apparently has been happening at my current church this summer. I just didn't realize it because I have been so busy with my own inner healing. It took my summer vacation for me to be away from those issues for me to recognize what spiritually going on.

Thanks a lot =)

Woah! That's craziness! All the best with the upcoming internship. Maybe it's for the bets so that you can just go into it rather than overthinking for a while beforehand. When I was going to be moving to France I spent the entire summer fretting.

I agree with Dave, you don't need to do a lot of fretting (or even non-fretting preparations) to get ready for most internships in the church. Nor would it be particularly productive to do so. The goal is to learn by doing. And lots of work in the ministry just comes at us. Like today, I've been dealing with issues for one our conference affliliated nursing homes/retirement communities all summer. This week I've spent more time at it than in my own congregation. But I also had one of my members pass away this week and needed to be attending to that. So, it was this morning before I got around to even putting the bulletin together for this Sunday's service, which is a major emphasis Sunday locally as all of the churches in the community have been promoting it as "Back to Church" Sunday. And what do I find on my desk when I walk in, another funeral Saturday afternoon, after the one Saturday morning. I don't even know this family, but still there is a connection and so they have asked me. Lots of ministry is like that. You can't prepare for the events. You just prepare your heart to be in the right place so that God can use you when it's your turn at bat.

Thanks, this is good to know. I have worked myself into a frenzy over this because I remember how much I was worked to death with student teaching, and couldn't imagine doing that again with this internship.

Well, it turns out that I had nothing at all to worry about. I met with my pastor and the associate pastor last week. Since I am creating my own ministry [Recovery Ministries] instead of doing an age related ministry [youth or children's] there won't be a need for a lot of office hours or on site activities especially at the beginning. I might spend one or two days a week doing something related to it and spend the rest o the time reading and researching other aspects of church administration [which I am weak in]. My main concern is understanding church finances. I discovered a resource from the denomination with many articles on the subject so I will spend my days tackling that subject first.

Now, on the other hand, I could be super busy if I followed my pastor's schedule of meetings. There was a conference on Saturday, church today, district meeting and class tomorrow, staff meeting on Tuesday... yikes.

How was your trip Marie? :)

Parts were really good, others parts were so so.

I really loved Kaua'i. My excursion was Backroads Kaua'i in which my guide took 3 of us on old sugar plantation roads for 5 hours. I was in heaven

Other tours were more pedantic and glorified shopping trips. Bleh. :o

Being a winter lover, I couldn't handle the tropical weather.

But, I just loved taking 1,400 pictures of the scenery. We went to four different islands and Dad got his Kona coffee from Kona itself. I call the trip "Dad's expensive Coffee Run."

Had a good time at church today. As I think I've shared recently, I have decided to go to my Sunday School but not the church service. I feel God's presence in SS but hurt too much to be able to handle the loud music so I just go home.

Today, after praying for the church service in my pastor's office [which we do between services], the other intercessor and I decided to just keep on praying and praying and praying....The next thing we knew church was over and my friend had missed it all. During our prayer time, when it came to praying for reconciliation, I felt God's Spirit burn within me [for the first time since being at this church *] and God's power rise up. This lasted for a long time. And then it happened again as my friend prayed for my healing over being wounded in church.

This gives us great hope that God is moving.

*This would happen all the time at my former church. I really missed God's presense like that at my current church.
