Does anyone here like Elizabeth Peters aka Barbara Michaels?

One of my favourite books series (Harry Potter is my other, I can't choose between them) is the Amelia Peabody series. I can't get enough of these books, they are such an enthralling read. I am really impressed by how the characters have developed over the series; she writes them all so well, especially Amelia (of course).

I've read all of them except for The Deeds of the Disturber. I only own one of them, the rest I borrowed from the library, DotD was the only one they didn't have.

I first discovered her as Barbara Michaels, and loved her writing style, and the fact that many of her plots tended to include geneaolgy (a passion of mine), and history.

What about everyone else?

I've read Serpent on the Crown and Curse of the Pharsohs, both by Elizabeth Peters and enjoyed both. I haven't had the chance to read any of her other works though, but her archaeological themes are right up my alley!

From Barbara Michaels I have read The Dark on the Other Side and The Sea King's Daughter. Again...both were great.

I absoutley love her!!!! I picked up a book one day in the hospital which happened to be Children of the Storm, the title caught me. At first I thought I was going to hate it, but after about the 3rd page I was captured. I now own all of her books and wait imaptiently for her next one :)

It's great to find other fans of her work.

Do you guys have a favourite book/scene? Ican't choose a favourite book, but I love the scene in one of the WWI Amelia books (there were a few, I can't remember the exact book), where Ramses is hurt, and Amelia sings him a song from his childhood (not your average children's song, I think it's quite bloody, and they comment on this). I love this scene so much, because even though we know the family loves each other, and are very protective of each other, they're not particularly demonstrative. I love seeing them both so vulnerable and Amelia so motherly.

I know it is probably unusual for a guy to like this author, but she's a favorite of mine. I used to listen to books on tape (back when they were ON tape!) and bought Night Train to Memphis. It was read by Kathleen Turner who did a phenomenal job with narration and different voices for Vicky, Schmidt and John Smythe. Plus it had clips of the actual country music song taken for the title! I've read many Peters books since then (although I haven't got into the Peabody books).

I've always loved mysteries and books set in exotic places. Elizabeth Peters is superb in that category. She is great (but different) as Barbara Michaels. I read Someone in the House about 20 years ago; some of her books I have read and forgotten what they were about, but the ending of that one was so unique it stuck with me.

I've read little of her Peters stuff. I LOVE Barbara Michaels though, have read all of her stuff except perhaps two. She has a gorgeous gothic mystery style with a lot of older house renovation themes for those.
