Getting Past the Past

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]In order to move forward in life, we have to “let go of the past.” But have you ever wondered exactly how to do that? First, understand that we take hold of things in our minds with our thoughts. Our thoughts become words and actions that determine the direction of our lives. It’s that simple. If you want to choose a new direction for your life, you have to choose new thoughts. If you want to let go of the past, you have to quit thinking about it, quit talking about it, and quit reliving every negative experience. [/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Oftentimes, when we see someone who has hurt us, that pain and offense is stirred up, and we start thinking about what happened again. But in that moment, you have a choice to make. One of the best things you can do, instead of rehearsing the hurt, is to pray for that person and speak blessing over them.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Remember, forgiveness is for you. Letting go of bitterness is for you. Don’t let the past hold you back from what God has in store for your future any longer. Get past the past by choosing right thoughts because God has victory and blessing in store for your future![/FONT]

That verse is about past attempts to be justified before God by works of the flesh, not anything about some past "hurts". Please tell me you check out what he's saying before you share it. No one should get a pass.

Luke 9:62 "No one, after putting his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

Phil 3:2 earlier in the chapter warns of the evil workers, the false circumcision, who had hurt them, by telling them they were not doing enough to satisfy God.

This was common, as the legalists of the church in Jerusalem kept going against Paul's teaching about the grace of God.

So as they looked back there WAS hurt to be dealt with before they could go forward toward perfection.

Joel's prayer was perfectly appropriate ...

Not with that verse. If one were to not read it for themselves, they might actually think the way Joel used that verse is the same way Paul used it. It was misrepresented completely. Joel is not rightly handling the word of God as he is commanded to do as an elder.

If you'd like to start at verse 1 of that chapter and show me where Paul wasn't talking about his former confidence in the flesh before God, please do so.

Paul tells them not to listen to them about going back into the law, and then he relates HIS former life with the law, and that he has not yet laid hold of the perfect righteousness in Christ, but he is striving, and not looking back. AND he is encouraging them to look ahead, and not back.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]All around you, God’s goodness is on display. The question is do you see it? The scripture talks about how God was in the midst of people, but they knew Him not. Too many times, God is working in our lives, showing us favor, protecting us, sending us healing, but we don’t recognize His goodness. For example, if you’re in a crowded parking lot and a car backs out so you can get a front row space, that’s the goodness of God. If you’re going through a difficult time and a friend stops by out of the blue and cheers you up, that’s the goodness of God.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]We have to remember not to take the little things for granted. All through the day we should be saying, “Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness. Thank You for my health. Thank You for my spouse. Thank You for the opportunity that You have given me.”[/FONT]

If it had not been for God’s favor some would still be struggling, barely making it. You may say, “Well Joel, I’ve got a long way to go.” And that may be true, but I want you to take a moment and look back over your life and realize how far you’ve come. The same God that brought you this far, the same God that has kept you alive is going to carry you through any difficulty you may be facing. The key is to just start praising and thanking Him for His goodness. Thank Him for His favor and blessing upon you. Praise precedes the victory. Praise brings the walls of opposition down. It's a fun game for kids, but even as adults, we need a good place to hide from time to time. Sometimes we need a place of refuge, a place of safety, a place to rest when we feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of life; a place where the enemy of our soul can never find us.[/FONT]

Being Still

In today's fast-paced culture, people are constantly multitasking, trying to do more in less time, constantly on the go, constantly seeking information, constantly checking off to-do lists. And there is nothing wrong with any of these things. But if we are going to see the Lord fight our battles, if we are going to embrace the victory He has for us, we have to make it a priority to be still before Him. [/FONT]

It means choosing right thoughts and putting our trust in Him. That's why it's so important to keep His Word first place in your life because when you know His Word, you know Him. When you know Him, you trust Him. When you trust Him, your heart and mind will be still before Him, and He will lead you into victory all the days of your life! [/FONT]

Just as God directed Elijah to his place of blessing, God is directing you. He's aligning the right opportunities and causing the right people to come along your path to help you get ahead. He's constantly working behind the scenes on your behalf because He is good and loves you with an everlasting love.[/FONT]

No, His promise of abundant life goes way beyond material things that this world offers. Abundant life means “life to the full.” That means no matter what is going on around you, you can partake of the full blessings of God. You can have peace in the midst of a storm. You can have joy when things are uncertain. You can have hope when circumstances seem hopeless. [/FONT]

How Do You Honor God?

I sing and clap in worship to honor God.” And yes, those are ways to honor God, but did you know that you honor God just as much when you get to work on time? You honor God when you are productive each day and honor the people in authority over you. You honor God when you excel in your career. [/FONT]

A Vital Necessity

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]What things do you consider a vital necessity in your life? In other words, what can’t you live without? Most people would immediately think of food, water and shelter; but in reality, we can’t really live unless our minds and hearts are set on seeking the Lord. Sure, you can exist without seeking Him, but you are called to more than just mere existence. You are called to live...to thrive...to enjoy your life abundantly! The good news is that you have complete control over what you set your mind and heart on. You decide what you think about.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I encourage you today; set your mind and heart on seeking the Lord! Write down your favorite scriptures and commit them to memory. Whenever you can, think about those verses. Meditate on God and His infinite love. Make a habit of seeking Him and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. When you require the Lord as a vital necessity, you will truly enjoy living the abundant life He has in store for you![/FONT]
