• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does Anyone Ever: Get Spikes From the Past

Or, in other words, does the OCD actively dredge up memories or situations from weeks, months, or even years past to try to get you to freak out or feel bad, to support its argument? Things you probably haven’t thought of in months, or if you did, it was only in passing, because you thought it was no big deal?

Last night, I had a spike that had those themes. I’m mostly over that particular one now, thank God, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Please comment if you have.

Not sure for me, sorry.

Ocd made me guily and doubtful. Do you feel guilty over you past? Then chances are it ocd guilt or enemy guilt in which they try to get you to relive regret of the past so you cant move forward.

Anyways its nothing to be intimidated so I will pray for you. Lean on Jesus when you need to move forward. Dont look back moving forward or you might bump into something :)

He cares personally about you, collects your tears and hurts when you hurt. Can you believe it? Rejoice! This is very good news. God feels our pain with us and for us. Praise him. Ill pray for you.

Well, the OCD TRIES to make me guilty about the past, but the thing is, I don't know if I did the things it's accusing me of. Or at least, not in the WAY it's accusing me of, if that makes any sense. But yeah, I see what you mean. :sigh: It's just so freakin' HARD to know which thoughts are OCD and which are valid, you know?

But thank you for your prayers and comment. They're much appreciated, believe me.

I struggle with the same thing. I constantly try to relive the past to figure out if I did or did not do what my OCD says I did. After doing some research, reliving the past and going through the same memory to try and deduce what happened is a compulsion, so I try to just convince myself it's just my OCD and move on. I also say to myself that I can distinctly remember when I've actually done something wrong in the past, so I would have remembered in this situation, too, instead of trying to remember if it happened. The problem with this kind of OCD, though, is we want complete certainty that it didn't happen, but we will never be able to know 100% if it did or didn't because it's more difficult to remember you NOT doing something. :sigh:

going through that now with intrusive thoughts. It sucks, but you have to look back and see that you made it this far, you will make it again and keep moving forward, while trying NOT get snared up again in its' chains. Past 3 days have been the worst I have felt in almost a year. And now I find myself back here again on these forums, seeking reassurance, but trying not to get so sucked into it again. Because I know where that can lead to. Urghhhh.

It's horrible isn't it? But thanks very much for sharing. I appreciate it!
