• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does Anyone Ever: Get Thoughts That Physically Affect Your Body

I occasionally get these, and man, they really freak me out. I used to think “God, if you want me to do such and such, take away the pain” when I had a headache or pain from exercising, or things like that, and just like that, the pain would vanish for a few seconds before coming back! Freaked me out, let me tell you. Happens with other sensations or feelings, too. What I’m wondering is if it’s actually God (which I’m skeptical about, to say the least), or just my mind screwing with my body and its normal reactions and producing exactly the effect I DON’T want, making me think that well, it didn’t go away totally… but it did for a few seconds or minutes, so is that actually a sign or something? :puff:

Anyone else ever experience this?

I used to say " God if im not going to hell then please take the feeling of condemnation away." it would for like a few hours, then it would come back. Reason: OCD.

That doesnt mean that God wont heal you. Hes with you all the days of your life. EVERY. LAST. ONE OF THEM. And he will be forevermore. When you pray, he listens.

If your having tough pains cry out to God again and again and wait for your answer. He knows just the right time for healing and it may not be when you want or think. Ill be praying for you but you must also.

Eventually i got tired of the condemnation coming back but i felt in my heart that one day, God would step in and help me- and he did. And he will help you too. Trust him. Put all your trust in him.

Pray worship praise and pray some more! It works and by faith, you will be healed. God loves you dearly and more than you can comprehend. Ever. So talk to him about it everyday if you have to then await your answer.

God bless you.

0_0 Umm... actually, for me, it's the opposite. To put in the terms of your example, the types of thoughts I'd get would actually be along the lines of "God, if I AM going to hell, take away the pain," and it would happen. :( Not quite like that, of course, but the point is, it was reactions that DIDN'T make me feel any better. Sometimes it was all over the place! Sometimes I'd think the exact same thing and I'd get TWO different reactions. :argh:

I eventually got over it when my Mom said that God doesn't make bargains like that, and it's just my body playing tricks on me, but I still worry occasionally. :(

I don't quite get those sort of thoughts. But part of my OCD is psycho- symptomatic. I associate evil (or what I consider to be evil), with feeling as if I've been plunged into the mud. I would come home from school (a very traumatic time in my life) and would spend hours in the bath-tub. I would scrub my hands raw, to the point that they would bleed and I would hide them in my shirt sleeves whenever I was around other people. I could 'literally' feel the grime on my hands. The ironic thing about it is, is that I'm not germ-a-phobic. I'm a country girl at heart. I love the outdoors and have no qualms about swimming in dirty creek water searching for tadpoles and turtles, and yet, even the smells I associate with that period of my life, will be enough to make me feel contaminated. --And that contamination would travel, so for instance, if I had a book from school and that book would touch a bedside lamp, the lamp itself would become contaminated and I'd have to throw away both. I've thrown away so much stuff (some, very precious and meaningful), because of this. I was constantly afraid that I would run into something that was 'school-related' and although my situation has improved, the truth is, I still have these fears somewhat.

BC,

Oh, dear, that sounds terrible. I’m so sorry. :( I guess it goes to show you that even our bodies and feelings can lie to us when we have OCD. I hope it’s getting better for you, now. If you want to chat or vent, I’m here to listen.

Thanks Aster. That means a lot. Please keep me in your prayers. I've seriously considered being hospitalized for it, but am afraid to do so. I really don't know why.

I shall definitely do so! ^-^ And... if you're that concerned about yourself, maybe you should go to the doctor's and have them check you out. :( That sounds really serious, and if they can help you on the road to recovery, so much the better! God gives us doctors and specialists for a reason, after all. Are you taking any vitamins or medication?

I'm afraid. How can I muster up the courage to go?

I'm on two different meds, Zoloft and Klonopin. I've heard that certain vitamins and herbs can help, but don't really know what they are. Also, is there any food I should stay away from, or eat more of?

Perhaps ask someone you trust to accompany you? But what exactly are you afraid? That people will think you're crazy?

Here's a good article about natural cures for anxiety related illnesses, if you're interested. :) Natural cures for anxiety-related illnesses: depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (O. C. D.), panic attacks, agoraphobia

No. Everyone knows I have OCD. I've been to therapists/doctors....I'm afraid to go to a hospital. I don't know why. Maybe because I know that I'll have to see it through, like Dante's trip through hell.

I see. I feel for you hon. :( Perhaps you should try some of the more natural remedies suggested in that article I linked you to before you try going to a doctor, then. I'm on inositol right now, and from what I can tell, It's been doing wonders. It's so much easier for me to shake the thoughts off now, even though I do have bad moments and it doesn't stop the thoughts from coming. They don't bother me for days and days like they used to. Perhaps that will help. :)

And you're very welcome.
