Was Jesus dour, or could he tell a joke, did he laugh?

This is all about religion . Christianity is about a relationship with the Lord - not do's and don'ts that may or may not appease a god far away as pagan religions have .

In *my* relationship with the Lord , there is much laughter .

Amen bro, in his presence is fullness of Joy.

most people under law seem so sterile, with a frown on their face, and they do not reflect the new cov on their faces, that of 2 cor 3, instead, they have a sinai do's and don'ts persona, a bad reflection, so to speak, a bad mirror, then they have the nerve to act like when we see them, we see jesus!

I love to laugh with the Lord.:)

Ecclesiastes 3:4
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

I guess it has a time, and a place.:)

According to the One Who is greater than Solomon, whom you quoted:

Luke 6:20-26

"And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. BLESSED ARE YE THAT WEEP NOW: FOR YE SHALL LAUGH. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. WOE UNTO YOU THAT LAUGH NOW! FOR YE SHALL MOURN AND WEEP. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets."

I can assure you that Jesus Christ isn't "laughing" or "joking" as He looks down upon the harvest that is perishing in the field, nor is He "laughing" or "joking" as He looks down upon those who call themselves His labourers, but seem to have an abundance of time on their hands for foolishness. Those who have the heartbeat of Christ will WEEP AND MOURN NOW. If we believe the words of JESUS CHRIST, that is. If not? Well, there's always the placating opinions of men...as evidenced on this thread and elsewhere.

So when he went to weddings and festivals, and people were enjoying, and laughing, Jesus sat there all stern looking?

You're asking me about festivals/feasts? Which one?

Passover...when Jesus was busy flipping over tables and driving out the money changers with a scourge of small cords (John 2:13-17)?

Tabernacles...when Jesus went up privately because the Jews sought to kill Him (John 7:1-2)?

Read the text, friend. He wasn't a marked man because of His joke telling, now was He?

Anyhow, as I already documented for you on the other thread, Jesus never spoke a word which He hadn't already heard from His heavenly Father. Are you prepared to go on the record as saying that God the Father wrote jokes for Jesus to tell? Just admit that you're wrong...it won't kill you. In fact, it will help you tremendously.

why are you acting like jesus did not have a life, before his ministry?:D

so when he was 28, he was walking around angry all the time?

again, would he go to a happy wedding, and sit there all stern looking and dour?

I don't get it though. Yes, Jesus never spoke a Word which He did not already know.

But.

Isn't the point of telling a "joke" to speak part of something you know but the receiver doesn't know yet, thereby making them laugh and think at the same time?

why, one can joke around, and then Jesus laughed at it. No?

How do you know Jesus did not tell a joke to his friends.

curious, do you think he ever laughed?:)

Wow! I've been reproved for quoting scripture. (that is funny) ^_^

Even Solomon spoke by the same Spirit as Christ.;)

Actually, I wasn't seeking to "reprove" you at all. Rather, I was merely showing how Jesus spoke on the whole "time to weep" and "time to laugh" issue...even if some/many don't like HIS INTERPRETATION of such. Incidentally, Solomon also had such things as the following to say in relation to "laughter":

Ecclesiastes 2:1-13

"I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity. I SAID OF LAUGHTER, IT IS MAD: AND OF MIRTH, WHAT DOETH IT? I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards: I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruits: I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees: I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. Then I looked upon all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath already been done. THEN I SAW THAT WISDOM EXCELLETH FOLLY, AS FAR AS LIGHT EXCELLETH DARKNESS. The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all."

If there was ever anybody who truly "tasted it all", then it was Solomon. However, after having "tasted it all", Solomon understood that all was vanity and vexation of spirit in the face of the reality of "the one event that happens to all" or in face of the reality of death. For this purpose, Solomon wrote:

Ecclesiastes 7:2-6

"It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. SORROW IS BETTER THAN LAUGHTER: FOR BY THE SADNESS OF THE COUNTENANCE THE HEART IS MADE BETTER. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity."

Solomon said that it's better to go the house of mourning (a wake or funeral) than to go to the house of feasting (a party). Why? Because this (death) is truly the end of all men (except for those who will be alive at the second coming of Christ) and the living will lay it to their hearts or hold such a realization in their hearts that ought to affect the way that they live and the way that they spend their time. Folly is just that...FOLLY. There seems to be quite a few folks on this forum who prefer such to soberness. To me, such is no "laughing matter".

Anyhow, Solomon and Jesus basically said the same exact thing WHICH WAS MY ACTUAL INTENDED POINT.

Well, I've got to get up for work in about 4 hours and I obviously haven't gone to bed yet. I'm headed there, now...

Good night.

Even I believe Jeus could laugh, besides, Isaacs name (the one of promise) actually means "he shall laugh" and speaks of him in the heavens laughing (but not really at a joke). Even as he said, "ye shall laugh" (also)

Though one of the synonyms of a joke is jest. And if we are to put that off and put on Christ, how would putting on Christ be synonymous with the Jesting (we are to put off)?

That would be my question.

And I also dont believe Jesus speaking what God commanded him to speak did so in jest when it come to the Fathers business. Showing all gravity, and seriousness when it come to serving the Father and glorifying God the Father.
