Does God have a priority list for answering prayer?

This question has been going through my mind. I often hear that God is not answering prayer or doesn't seem to hear what we pray for, but is it that God answers a prayer when the time and conditions are just right. Have you ever heard some say, "My prayer was answered in just a nick of time."? Or a healing occurs when someone might be on his/her last legs in the emergency room?

Many times I have wanted an immediate answer to prayer but it occurs later and sometimes much later. The prioritization concept makes sense to me. God created the world in a timely logical process so why not the same for answering prayer? Any thoughts on this?

God does not "prioritize" prayers.

The prayers that God answers are those that are prayed according to the instructions He has given us in order to have prayers answered.

Many Christians(born again person) insist on doing prayer "their way", not being obedient to what God said.

Just thought I'd add here some verses (not all) on prayer, maybe these will help, because these speak of what to pray, ask, and desire of Him

My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer

And we are His House

Thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly

And when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Men ought always to pray, and not to faint, Pray also for them which despitefully use you.

Pray ye also the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest, and for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you

Pray that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

That God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power

Pray that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding

And that the God of peace sanctify you wholly; that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him...

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. Desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy, he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

Ye have not, because ye ask not

Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men

We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you

Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus

Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!

And God granted him that which he requested.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

 Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Behold, I have done according to thy words

This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him

I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

Husbands (hindered prayers)

1Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Maybe some of these can get you started being helpful to what to ask for

God bless :thumbsup:

better question...is He listening to you?

Jeremiah 7:16
“So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you.

Jeremiah 11:11
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.

Jeremiah 14:12
Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”

Isaiah 1:15
New International Version (NIV)
15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I hide my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.
Your hands are full of blood!

John 9:31
We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.

I need to add more into the other (I know) but I'll add these and edit into here

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

Ask what you will,

Paul was always "that I might know him" (his true hearts desire) not for the abundance of things ( as the lust for other things chokes the word). But of Gods abundance, whose love is better then life

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

John too speaks of having what we ask for because we do those things which please him

Jesus prayer was for these....

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

And these....

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

These made prayers for all men....

Hindered prayer is even shown in the OT as it is in the NT between husbands (and the wife of their own covenants)

Heres where you can see a connection in the OT with the NT between husbands and wives, seeing the altar as the one in heaven (ofcourse) but he says here....

Mal 2:13 And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

"Yet" ye say (huh?)

Mal 2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

Where as Paul says...

Col 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Now look at this again (knowing its in the conext of husbands and wives) He is speaking to the husbands) however, follow it through with Peters words

Mal 2:13 And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

So he regardeth not the husbands prayers (even as we have an altar in heaven) whereas Peter says...

1Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life;thatyour prayers be not hindered.

So Peter indicate the husbands prayers can be hindered (in respects to the treatment of his wife) and the Lord being a witness to it.

Which (to me) might play into the head of the wife is the husband, and the husband seems to be shown as answerable to the Lord (and in respects to her). And Peter seems to play off of this much the same, and specifically between the two (husbands and wives) or the wife of "thy" covenant.

Its like one power trip (head of her) sets off the way way bigger power (the head of him) ^_^

Well, I guess theres more emphasis (these days) on the head of the wife being the husband (and perhaps forgetful of this maybe).
