It's humourous. Alas, it isn't quite accurate. The Catholic Church in America has been bleeding out members for decades. It has gone from rate of 75% practising Catholics in 1958, to 17% in circa 2008-ish. About roughly 10% of Americans identify as being former Catholics; many of whom are now either Evangelical or Fundamentalist Protestant --or are simply Irreligious or Non-religious. Not a gain or boon by any stretch of the imagination.
