Lately I have been really feeling down because of my job (finding no joy in it) and just various other little things that add up.

I have heard for the past 2 years and 7 months that praying in tongues while praying really helps to edify you and empower you for your day.

I would really like to do this, but haven't been able to. I know that I have been baptized by the Spirit as I show good fruit.

How can I start to pray in tongues? I have prayed and just opened my mouth and still English comes out and I don't feel different then when I started. I would really like to pray in tongues and have prayed this to God.

Firstly, if we believe the traditional pentecostal doctrine of the Baptism of the Spirit, fruit has nothing to do with it. POWER is the clincher - Acts 1v8.

So are you Baptised in the Spirit ? you might be, but your missing the tongues part.....like a
pair of shoes, you feel incomplete without it.

I don't really advocate to start babbling in faith hoping for the best unless you really feel led to do that. All you can do is ask and keeping on asking....Luke 11v13 and ask for the GIFT of tongues to manifest. My own testimony on the subject is that I sought the Lord, and felt a bubbling up WITHIN ME aka John 7 v37-39. But that was me. And all I done was release what was IN me verbally, then it came out, a combo of Japanese and Italian !! (I felt led to do that, you will recognise the urge yourself).

Its a great edifying gift, so you are correct there. Ask the Lord, and keeping asking, and he will deliver, he says seek the gifts - 1 Corinthians 14.

Fruit ? I Know plenty of tongue talkers who sadly lack in the fruit area, thats more to do with sanctification, renewing the mind and dying to self. THAT comes more naturally to some than others.

I PRAY THAT THE LORD ZAPS YOU FULLY AND YOU GET THE WHOLE LOT ( a fresh Baptism in the Spirit, with tongues) IN ONE GO !! IF YOU HUNGER LIKE IT SOUNDS YOU HAVE BEEN , YOUR GET IT, BIG TIME xx

SAY "Lord I want this, I come in faith, make it happen, I want it and need it" - A friend done this and he woke up - speaking in tongues! God works even while you sleep !

If you are truly Baptized you will speak in tongues. Don't ask anymore you are. You need to stand by faith and not beg for it. Just keep thanking God that you are filled and keep thanking God that you will speak in tongues. Confess this, "Thank you God that I am filled and I speak with tongues as the Spirit gives me utterance". You need to stand by Faith and not doubt. Everytime you say I haven't been able to that is what you get. Mark 11:23-24 is a faith scripture. Don't tell God you can't, tell God you are filled and speak with Tongues, Speak Faith. You have what you say. You will speak one day and it will come when you don't expect it.

I know people who are TRULY Baptised in the Spirit and DON'T speak in tongues. Some of Gods greatest movers and shakers didn't. Thats fact.

I am sorry but no. Why Act 2:4 says and they were filled and began to speak with tongues. This is the evidence they are filled. Not my words but the Bible says it. Let me explain a little. A person can be Born of the Spirit and not Filled. When a person accepts Jesus as Lord he is Born of the Spirit but not Filled with the Spirit. Then he/she asks God to be filled then he speaks with tongues as the Spirit give him/her utterance. One can be Born of the Spirit and never speak with tongues and still go to heaven. I Believe Jesus was filled and spoke with tongues.

That was the evidence that the Holy Spirit was being poured out upon, and would come to live in, the first apostles, just as Jesus said he would. I don't believe that tongues are the proof that someone has received the Holy Spirit - because I know I have and I can't speak in tongues. I believe the evidence someone has received the Spirit is a greater desire to know Jesus and read the Bible, together with the fruit of the Spirit.

I was in a church once where the vicar said that he didn't want to speak in tongues. This was so that he could answer people who said you have to speak in tongues to be a Christian, and reassure anyone who felt themselves to be a "second class Christian" because they didn't.

It is indicative of the wisdom of God to introduce tongues when He poured out His Spirit so that there would be a definitive answer to the question as to who is baptized. As soon as some disbelieve the man made doctrine of receiving baptism in the Holy Spirit at conversion the sooner the non tongue talkers will be able to receive.

Bro, I hear you. but the evidence is POWER. (Jesus said it- Acts 1v8). Otherwise he would have said TONGUES.

I know many tongue talkers who affect no one. I know others who have not spoken in tongues, but have a great affect. The evidence is in THE AFFECT you carry. I used to believe like you, but not anymore. The Baptism in the Holy spirit is an ongoing experience - see Acts 4v31. Too many hold to a one time past experience when they spoke in tongues, but are now as dry as a bone, yet claim to be "baptised in the spirit." Remember its mainly POWER to witness....otherwise why bother getting it, if all you do is keep it to yourself. On the subject of tongues, which is "an" evidence of the Baptism in my opinion, its great, if you use it, it edifys and stirs up the spirit within you. I am fully aware of those people who are born again and stop at that point. But there are others who HAVE BEEN baptised in the Spirit as well, but tongues has not followed. But they are EMPOWERED FOR MINISTRY.

Read: There is more/BAPTISED IN THE SPIRIT by Randy Clarke - THATS THE MOST BALANCED I HAVE READ ON THE SUBJECT. I HAVE READ OVER 50 BOOKS ON THIS SUBJECT. HE PINS IT DOWN VERY WELL.

You can get lost in all this doctrine dispute, or you can try doing something different and see if you get a different result. Jesus says that if you ask to receive the Holy Spirit it will be given.

Luke 11:13 (ASV) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Ask again, when you speak in tongues you will know for sure, and you can leave the doctrine spouting to those who love to control others.

What is missing here is a set of practical steps to show the OP how to receive the gift of tongues. That's what was asked for. I don't think that he is interested in whether others speak in tongues or not when they have the baptism with the Spirit. He is asking for practical help to know how to receive the gift.

If people think they have received the gift of tongues because they had some sort of feeling, or some "force" that took over their mouths and tongues, then I would have concerns because that is not faith. Faith is believing God's word that when we ask for and receive the gift of tongues, we demonstrate our faith that we have received the gift by doing something we couldn't do before, and that is to speak a language we have never learned. This means that WE have to speak the language and make up the words (for a start). The difference between speaking gibberish and tongues is what we BELIEVE we are speaking. An authority on tongues says that gibberish is always forced and with effort, but when the Spirit inspires tongues, although we are making up the language, the words are flowing out of our mouths with no effort. We might have to make an effort at the beginning as we activate our faith, but God honours our faith and the Spirit starts to flow the tongues out of us and we become fluent.

So it's not a matter of waiting for the Spirit to take over our mouths and tongues. He is waiting for US to take the initiative and start speaking our made up language. We "prime the pump" in the faith with our own made up language, and then the living waters start flowing out of us, and we lose the sense of making up the language because as we continue speaking in faith, the Spirit is making up the words for us. The Spirit does the inspiring, we do the speaking. That where the Spirit works with our faith.

Every believer has already prayed in tongues. Anyone who has been born again and uttered a sigh, a groan, or a joyous laugh has spoken in tongues to the Father. You do it all the time. You just have not realized what you were doing when you did it.

When I pray in an unknown tongue, MY spirit prays (is bearing fruit), my mind is not bearing the fruit.

We all just need to learn how to do it "On purpose with purpose."

It is not I that is praying, it is Christ praying in me.

If only it was that easy.

This is the first job to give me an interview since last year. That in includes fast food places, pizza places and other restaurants such as Olive Garden.

My transferable skills are no longer transferable. I was an EMT and had those skills and I did warehouse work. Because of a hand injury that two surgeries, prayer and hands laid on hasn't fixed. That leaves me with partial use of my hand that includes much reduced dexterity and no strength in that hand.

I am unable to get a degree in the only other two things career wise that I am interested in. That would be marine biology, specializing in cetaceans or computer repair. Both which requires a degree or certificate that includes math that are well beyond my comprehension.

As I said, if only it were that easy.

That is erroneous doctrine and certainly not as WoF teaches
