Funny thing -- Christians always seem more nostalgic about those kind of stories than the most rabid Atheist. Why is that?
You can only imagine because you want to imagine -- Is American Christianity so short of heroes that you need to manufacture them out of these bozos?
Or is it something deeper? Is it because Christianity has its origins as the underdogs, and now that you guys are in charge, you simply don't know what to do with yourselves? You hear stories about persecution back in the old days, and, thinking that's what you're supposed to be doing, go looking for it?
Why else would anyone honestly bring a pig's head to a mosque except to pick a fight? And who else but Christians would pick a religious fight in order to lose it?

True, no one would doubt the horrific rule of Nero and its impact on Christians. Let's just be thankful to the Lord that we are no longer facing such persecutions and are free to be saved by Jesus without fear of persecution.

So why is it that too many Christians not only don't fear persecution, but they welcome it, seek it out, and if necessary, manufacture it?

How about they get a booth at the festival and hand out free bottled water? Be available for conversation about Jesus but don't have condemning signs or insulting pig heads? Christ presented his message for those who had ears and wished to hear.
Did anyone here who wasn't born into a Christian life convert because someone's crappy sign told them they were going to hell or handed them a tract about how wrong they are living? Probably no.
Live a great life as an example of what to be. Be honest, friendly, real and actually helpful to people. They will want to know WHY you are like that in this world where everyone's out for their own interests. Feed the needy, visit people in prison, help people out - all without wanting fame, praise or reward.

Most Christians have never (and thankfully, will never) experience persecution, so I guess some automatically think anything that doesn't go their way to be persecution. It is insulting to the millions of Christians in Egypt, Pakistan or North Korea that do face persecution.
