Good Morning All...
Does anyone out there suffer from daily depression like I do?
My depression hits me about 2 hours after I wake up.
The first thing I do every morning is pray. I could use some
input regarding bible verses to read that might shed some
light on this problem I have. I am care giving for my
step Grandfather. I have no prior experience with this. It's going on the 3rd
week and it is taking a heavy toll on my patience and stress-
level. I try to stay humble and patient when he insults me, and
constantly blames others and myself for his mistakes and bad
behaviors. I understand how frustrated he must feel due to his
Parkinson's disease. He is slowly losing his independence because
of his lack of motor skills due to his disease. And, I have tried to
communicate to him that I am trying to remain supportive and
empathetic to his situation. But, he gets so offended at the simple mentioning of his disease that it triggers a small rage in which there is no
way to calm his nerves other than to all together change the
subject to something that has no relation to his health issues at
all. Any Christian based suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You for your time. And may GOD bless you all.
Sincerely,
Joseph....

Just one suggestion: make your posts in the correct subforum.

This special subforum is meant for discussions about creation and evolution. This is why it is titled "Creation & Evolution".

I am sure you will find more support in other parts of this forum. If you are unsure where to post, ask a moderator.

I'm sorry about that.
Maybe I have the wrong idea about your site.
Is there a way for me to ask for support or
information about bible verses or share some
challenges I am facing? I guess what I need
is a Christian perspective and suggestions
for spiritual growth. I don't know what a
Moderator is or does. I am new at all this.

Sorry once again.

You can certainly get those things on this forum but this is not the optimum subform for the best perspectives and advice. I am sure someone can help you find the appropriate place for your questions.

I try to stay humble and patient when he insults me, and constantly blames others and myself for his mistakes and bad behaviors.

Sometimes that's the right way to go. But when it is, we will have the witness of the Spirit that we are in the will of God on it. We will have a peace and a joy that transcend the suffering.

When that is not the case, then we need to look at how we're approaching the problem. If you're getting seriously depressed every day, despite a lot of prayer and Bible reading, I would suggest you consider a more plain response to your grandfather's bullying: stand up to him and tell him you're not going to put up with it any longer.

Yes, it's a tough thing that he's going through. But for his own good he needs to accept it, or perhaps get faith that God will heal him. Either way, there is no room for the kind of behavior you describe.

If you want scripture on this, I suggest you read about Paul in the book of Acts. Paul wrote many passages about longsuffering: Gal 5, 1Cor 13, and countless others. Yet you will find that he did not hesitate to lower the boom when it was called for (and Jesus did the same thing: see Mt 23, Jn 2, etc). We need to be spirit-led in these matters. It is not a virtue to suffer when doing so is not redemptive.

As I see it, you essentially have two choices: continue as you have been, trusting there will be a change, or try a different approach. I would read and pray with that in mind. Also see James 3.17-18 for the characteristics of God's wisdom.

Welcome to the forums.

It's good that you're remaining supportive and empathic for him. Some older people do get angry at their situations and take it out on the people around there. One dr said he was glad to see it because it meant the patient (an aunt and other nursing home patients) was still trying to work things out and not to take it personally. But I know that it can be very difficult to do that. If the same words were being said by someone you didn't know, it probably wouldn't affect you the way it is. He's scared, frustrated and angry - I mean all this stuff is happening and he has no control and is losing his life as he has known it - it is a terrible situation to be in. Have you tried talking with him about things he does enjoy at this time - anything - A tv program, a menu, a particular Scripture, etc. You know something that's not so disease related and is peaceful conversation between the two of you. Could you contact his nurse and ask what do they recommend in this type of situation. What they have found that helps the patients deal with the psychological aspects of this process.

Definitely continue to pray for him and ask Yahweh to give him peace. Praying for Him to give you wisdom, counsel and strength.

Tell your depression you have a BIG GOD.
One thing which you can be certain of, that could never be taken away from you is the fact that you have Jesus Christ in your life. If you certainly do, you are a winner.
Always remember Jesus loves you.
Pray all the time for the Peace of God to fall on you. Peace that transcends natural understanding.

Please look after yourself too. You cannot break yourself emotionally, mentally just because you want to keep someone satisfied. Take a break if you need to, and make sure you are okay as well.

I pray that The Lord helps you, comforts you, bless you. I pray the Lord will make His face shine upon your heart and your life. I pray the Lord will be gracious to you
And I pray that He will turn towards you, and give you His peace in Jesus name.

Joseph; God's words to and for you

Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope

Goodluck
