Well my tastes are definitely pop compared to yours. I hate thrash and all that stuff. I don't like Slayer and Metallica and Megadeth and all that. I hate that stuff that sounds like a chainsaw and a guy belching into a microphone and just pure bellowing screams with drums that just basically pound like power drills. Not my thing. I was definitely an Ozzy/Maiden/Dio type of guy for metal, but more of a classic rock and progressive rock dude for most of my listening choices. More of a Rush, Yes, Steely Dan, Floyd type of dude.

Since I play guitar, I prefer to kind of be all over the place. I get moody. I was on a big Stevie Ray Vaughan blues kick for months, then switched gears radically to just basically learning every single song on Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, etc. LOL

I'm all over the place!?

Yea, I liked Maiden GnR, etc when I felt like soft rock. ;) In '87, I was in the army, moshing in the barracks, to extreme metal and punk/crossover.

Grunge was everything wrong with music. I hated it when it came out and I always will. Grunge's rise came at the demise of speed and thrash metal. I'm starting to tear up a bit myself.

She did an album a few years ago, called Memphis Blues,,, I was amazed, I never knew she could actually sing!
Yep, she certainly can sing wonderfully! Now, as long as she doesn't talk, it's all good. :p

The reason why I can't take heavy metal or hard rock or whatever you want to call it is because the screeching guitar gives me a headache, and lots of times, it just sounds like a bunch of racket, but really makes it worse is the horrible singing voices by male vocals that sound like screeching cats. Sorry, metal fans. But I like male vocals where I can understand what they're saying, and they actually have manly, pleasing voices. :sorry:

The heaviest stuff I listen to regularly is probably NIN or the occasional System of a Down. I actually liked a lot of the 90s alternative metal and folksy stuff, but mostly I listen to classical, child ballads, or music that is at least 50 or 60 years old. As far as more modern stuff goes, Fiona Apple or Florence and the Machine are more my speed. Complex lyrics make me happy.

^_^ We do all have our tastes. My dad really disliked my music, and if he would have caught any heavy metal, I think he would have had a rant on it. lol After all, with the exception of a few rock and top 40 type bands, it was all trash because they couldn't compete with classical music by a long shot. ^_^ I'd always just laughed that off when I was younger, then my hubby started to listen to a classical radio station a few years ago, and then I would listen with him in the car at times, then I started playing it in my car on and off the past year, and I can now see why he had a real love of it, and why he was partial to Bach. :D

Oh yea, I love classical. Folk, Bluegrass... Honestly I can appreciate most music other than pop. :sorry:

I can really understand your not liking pop. There's no variety to their lyrics!

It is the same reason I can't usually stand Contemporary Christian or Praise music.
contemporary Christian music is too corny and fluffy to me. I do love Gospel music, though. :D

Also, most of the time, the music is insipid and uninspired. Especially the modern dance pop Ke$ha/Gaga garbage. Modern pop is marketed to the lowest common denominator, emphasizing trends, clichés and 'catchiness' over talent. Note, that may not be true of all pop artists, but when my kids ask to listen to the pop station in the car, I rarely hear anything worth remembering.

Some people like to rip on heavy metal as not requiring real talent, but bad metal artists don't last. Good metal takes talent, speed, and precision, moreso than most music (including lots of music I absolutely adore), other than maybe bluegrass (some insane picking going on there).

Hardly. I didn't listen...I scanned it at the bottom where you preview it. Nice try though! :p

Haha, I just realized what happened. My forum setting don't show vids (only links) but yours must.

I should have used bit.ly.

So I guess I rolled myself...LOL!

Rock on! ^_^

Yes, I agree that lots of pop music is as you described. I can't stand Lady Gaga. I don't care for Katy Perry, but I do love Adele. :)

I remember when Kate first came here from the Philippines, in our early days...she heard me blasting Led Zeppelin in my Camaro and she said, "my God, who is that guy singing? That's nuts?!" I said, "ok, we need to make one thing perfectly clear....that's Robert Plant! That's a sacred cow right there, baby!" :p^_^

My wife is fine with Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, but when Geddy Lee from Rush sings, she goes nuts? Go figure! ^_^

All I know of Iron Maiden are their horrific posters I had to see little kids stare at and go browse through at the poster stand when I worked at a record and tapes store between the ages of 19 and 21. :sorry: I've never listened to their music, TBH. As far as Rush goes....that's one of my husband's all-time favorite groups....but, like your wife, if Geddy is the lead singer, I don't care for his high-pitched voice either. It's not screamy, it's just not my style. :)

Never liked Led Zeppelin. I can't tell you how many people thought I was some kind of nut because I couldn't stand their music, (what little I heard...the rock station here, when they start playing any Zeppelin, I immediately turn the dial ^_^). I have heard of Robert Plant because in the MTV days, he had some videos, and apparently he was a solo artist then. He was ok. ^_^

But at least Brittney had one redeeming quality--she was gorgeous (at the time, pre head-shave and weight gain and good ole-fashioned aging!). Lady Gaga looks like a poodle with a heavy case of parvo.

some kind of gimmick or something...like Britney Spears was, imo.
