True, Anhelyna. I'm not as worried. I just remembered my c-section with my first son. That was much more evasive than this would be, I'm pretty sure!

I need to call the women's surgery place to get all the details for prepping and give them my health history and all - pre-admission stuff.

btw, just a bit ago, my mom asked if I needed anything and if she should come up! That really meant a lot to me. I was kinda surprised because she's been kinda emotionless and drowned in her own grief lately, so I did not expect that. I see glimpses of my mommy from years ago.

Wow - your Mom asked that ?

OK Dorothea - then she's not as far down as you thought !
Yes. She and my younger niece were supposed to come visit maybe next week during our Greek Festival...well, it was postponed due to the terrible fires the past week or so, and changed to early Sept. So, I wasn't sure if they were going to come. I know mom can still come, but Zoe, my younger niece, starts school in early August. Ah well. Maybe it would be good for mom to come here and be with us for a bit. She really likes my priest. In fact, when she came to visit for Pascha 2010 with dad, she went to confession with my priest, and that was a huge deal considering she hadn't been to confession in, she said, 40 years!

This sounds like a good move for your mom. Having you and a priest close by who understands her would be a huge help. Maybe she will start being herself and even cook you a dinner.

Encourage her to do things she used to do. Does she play a musical instrument or sing?
Perhaps you can pray the hours with her during the day or read a good book together.
Maybe your children could prepare a skit and entertain her.

Does she like pets like cats, dogs, or bunnies?
Sometimes animals can bring people out of a slump.

She used to play the piano when we were growing up, but can't and hasn't in decades due to her arthritis in her hands. She used to do lots of things until her arthritis and tendinitis kicked in decades ago.

But, I think she'll like to go to church with us. She likes our priest, and I think she likes to be in her "home" parish (not that ours has ever been....it's the fact that it's Greek Orthodox, which is homey for her. She attends an Antiochian one back home which is a great parish with a wonderful priest as well). I think she likes hearing the hymns sung in Greek. :)

I do hope she comes to visit. She said, "We'll see" when I told her I didn't want to burden her and that her plate was full with things there. God will show us.

I prefer the Greek hymns and troparia. I especially love singing Axion Esti in honor of the Theotokos.

I'm glad your blood test was negative. I had several surgeries for endometriosis. If you would like some details of the laparascopy parts of it for me, PM me. The biggest thing is not overdoing it (which of course, I did). You think, "Well, I only have these 3 tiny incisions, so it should not be a big deal......."

Your mom may find help in being useful/needed.

Anyhow, take care of yourself.

Thanks be to God that cancer isn't in the picture.

I think to myself how delicate a woman's health can be, reproductive health that is, and how short-lived a woman's life could've been before the last century....between transversed babies, umbilical cords wrapped around the baby's neck, cysts, bleeding problems, ovarian/cervical/breast cancer....so many tough challenges for women. I can only imagine how things must've been before the advent of this great technology that helps so many women.

I'm so happy for you, Dot!

Thanks very much, Rafaela. I will probably be PMing you some time very soon. :)

Yes, I hope mom feels this will help her feel useful and give her something else to think about. Not that it's anything really great, but she will have a chance to help take care of the boys while I'm healing. :)

Thanks, Scott! Don't forget ectopic pregnancies, for which my first one was just that. But you are so right. Women have survived much because of the advances in women's health. It's the same for my son. He wouldn't have been here still alive 50 years ago.

Yes! Kate would be dead and Caleb. He was a transversed birth, sideways, and she had to have a c-section on him.

Thanks, Jade.

Yep. My first son (2nd if you could ectopic)'s delivery was c-section. Thank God for doctors in these cases for sure!
