It's been 28 years today since my mother died. I can not think of a day I have not thought of her.

I think because my daughter is capable now of asking, and has, where my parents are, this year is...harder than before.

If you could spare a moment of prayer for me.

Thank you very much everyone. The anniversaries of mom and dad and gram have always mattered, we've kept them so long...lost them all before age 25. Lily adds a new dynamic. In a way it is alright..I get to pass on their stories and memories and I know they see her and are linked to her always through our living and wonderful Christ.

My little one looks so much like my mom at her age, it just kind of hit home today...same colored hair in the summer when the sun bring out the auburn. It may make me sad at times but happy too...and I would not trade it.

Thanks for the thoughts.

There is a poignancy, too, I believe, in being the "patriarch" or the "matriarch" of your family. My Mom always used to say, "I am the matriarch." She was the oldest member of her generation, and everyone in the preceding generations--aunts, uncles---had died.

You became a 'young patriarch' at an early age.

I am almost at the stage where I can say, "I am the matriarch." Oldest child on both sides of the family, with one aunt left, age 87. And longevity runs in my family.

I realize that we are still family in the continuum of eternal life, and that their wisdom and love are temporarily inaccessible to me, sometimes at times when I badly need it.

How fortunate I was to have had them for so long.

I was going to say the very same thing David. The likeness is uncanny :)

I still have my mother with me but am dreading the day she passes...:(

Prayers for you and your whole family...:prayer:

By the way that photo of your mom looks as if it could be in Ireland or the UK. I'm probably totally wrong but that kind of wall is so common over here...

My moms family is from the UK, Staffordshire. We lived in the Coal Region of PA that has, at times, a very UK and Ireland look because of the nationality of many of the immigrants. My great grandmother had that wall build and I am sure patterned it after the common style in Staffordshire. From what my grandmother used to say much of the house and yard was very much a British style.

Thank you for that info David. It makes perfect sense now

Lord I pray for David and for the loss he suffers with the death of his Mother. Lord only you understand the depths of loss and pain. I pray Lord that you will ease his pain and bless him with the remembrances of his Mother.

The one thing that is blessed David, is that you get to see glimpses of your Mother in your young daughter. Just think, you Mothers actual genes were passed on and part of her lives in your wee daughter. That truly is blessed.
