The following video shows how Christianity becomes increasingly marginalized in Great Britain:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nA7rqqNTZg

This is an interesting video in Britain about the downfall of Christianity in Europe. Although the situation is not the exactly the same in all European countries, there is a definite trend to that in the whole Western Europe. You Americans be prepared to see in not a distant future Christian Refugees from Europe, although the optimistic notes at the end of the video. European Christians were accustomed to a hierarchical system who took every responsibility, the laity being passive receiver of faith. American Christianity, at least the most thriving churches is based on communitarian base, where the individual members actively support their community. There are also some evangelical churches in Europe functioning with the same community base. But they represent only 2% of the population. In Switzerland these 2% generate 28 % of regular Church goers.

I'd say this is the end result of the myth of "Christian Nations".
tulc(just a thought) :)
If by "Christian Nations" you mean nations founded as a theocratic democracy or similar structure, there never were any, and no one ever claimed there were. If, however, "Christian Nations" are countries founded by Christian men who used their biblical principles and called on the Holy Spirit to lead them to establish a nation that allowed individual liberty of an unprecedented nature, including freedom of religion, speech, assembly, and freedom from government intrusion, unreasonable searches and the abridging of personal liberties, there is only one, and we are it. But as anti-Christian forces have made great inroads in eroding those freedoms and liberties over the years, it won't be long before we will be unrecognizable as the "Christian nation" the founders created with the stroke of a pen and the spilling of righteous blood. You can call that a myth if you want. You will be incorrect.

The Dangers of the Last Days

from apostle Paul

3 You should know this, Timothy, (the church) that in the last days there will be very difficult times.

2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.

3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived

4 2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching

3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

The myth of "A Christian Nation" goes way beyond "Is America a Christian Nation?" it goes back to when the Church decided they wanted to rule along side Kings instead of living as part of a Kingdom that isn't bound by borders or ruled by any King but Jesus. It's one of a set of heresies (IMHO) introduced under Constantine and has resulted in (among other things) one set of Christians being able to freely slaughter another set of Christians simply because they were told (by the Church! :( ) that it was perfectly fine to do so. :sigh: As a side note? I not only don't believe America is a Christian Nation, I don't believe there's any such thing at all, apart from being a fellow citizen of the Kingdom Of our Lord Jesus.

Don't be sorry, it makes for good discussion. I believe you overlook the righting of those "royal we" wrongs adopted by arrogant politicians (royalty is nothing if not political) who adopted faith as a way of connecting to their constituency. Not the serfs and slaves, but the middle class nobles who adhered to faith, also for primarily political reasons.

That "righting" was done by the men who founded this country. I agree, there is no such thing as a "Christian nation" if we are talking about a nation founded as a theocratic democracy or whatever other form of government might think can be grafted into Christianity. The truth obviously is, no for of government can be so grafted. But men can form a government founded on the principles of "love your neighbor as yourself" and "love God" without actually mentioning those things. The founders did an admirable job of doing just that in the Declaration, and in the Constitution.
